Checking accelerator position senders: Audi A6 C5 (AJK, ARE, ARY, AUM, …)
Step-by-step checking accelerator position senders for the Audi A6 C5: 18 steps. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.
Workshop procedure for AUDI — the exact step sequence and torque figures, straight from real workshop data.
🧭 Before you start
Fits: Audi A6 C5 (4B)
- Special tools named: V.A.G 1598/31
Don't miss
- Connect vehicle diagnostic, testing and information systemVAS 5051 A and select vehicle system "“01 - Engine electronics”" from list. When doing this the ignition must be switched on.
- The engine control unit converts the voltage values of the angle senders into a percentage referenced to 5 V and displays these percentage values (5 V supply voltage corresponds to 100 %).
- The value displayed in zone (3) must always be roughly twice that in display zone (4).
- Connect adapter cable, 121-pin V.A.G 1598/31 (test box) to wiring harness for engine control unit, but do not connect the engine control unit itself .

📋 Procedure
- Connect vehicle diagnostic, testing and information systemVAS 5051 A and select vehicle system "“01 - Engine electronics”" from list. When doing this the ignition must be switched on.
- From the list (1) select diagnostic function "“08 - Read measured value block”".
- Use keypad (2) to enter "“62”" for "“Display group number 062”" and confirm by touching the Q key.
- Check displays in zones (3) and (4). [Note: The engine control unit converts the voltage values of the angle senders into a percentage referenced to 5 V and displays these percentage values (5 V supply voltage corresponds to 100 %).]
- Observe the response of the displays in zones (3) and (4) whilst slowly depressing accelerator pedal all the way. [Note: The value displayed in zone (3) must always be roughly twice that in display zone (4).]
- Press the ← key to exit from the function "“08 - Read measured value block”".
- Switch off ignition.
- Check voltage supply and wiring of accelerator pedal position senders as described in the following.
- Remove driver's storage compartment General body repairs, interior68.
- Unplug connector (arrow) at accelerator pedal module.
- Switch on ignition.
- Connect multimeter (voltage measurement range) as follows:
- Check the signal wires.
- Check wiring between engine control unit and accelerator position senders.
- Connect adapter cable, 121-pin V.A.G 1598/31 (test box) to wiring harness for engine control unit, but do not connect the engine control unit itself .
- Check for open circuit and short to positive or earth in the following wiring:
- Repair wiring connection if necessary.
- Renew accelerator pedal module Fuel supply system, petrol engines20.

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
Seen a figure that does not match your manual? Write to us — we correct it and note when. support@torqfix.com
