147 1.9 JTD 16V C530.6 gearbox — ALFA ROMEO
147 1.9 JTD 16V C530.6 gearbox on Alfa Romeo: 131 steps, engines 192A5000, 192B1000, 937A4000, 937A5000.
Removing the C530.6 six-speed gearbox from the Alfa Romeo 147 1.9 JTD 16V and JTDm 16V is a full front-end job. The battery and tray, air filter and airflow meter come out, the clutch slave cylinder is unbolted with its hydraulic line left connected, and the engine is supported from above while the left gearbox support is released. Underneath, the wheels, arch liners, pre-catalyst pipe, drive shafts, lower arms, anti-roll bar links and gearbox lower cover come off, and the subframe has to be lowered with the power steering lines unclipped. The fuel filter and starter also need to move. Good support of engine and gearbox at every stage, and disciplined bleeding of the shared brake and clutch hydraulic system on refitting, are what decide how it goes.
🧭 Before you start
Disconnect and remove the battery and tray, the air intake and the air filter with airflow meter, and release the clutch hydraulics via the reservoir. Remove the slave cylinder, starter and selector cables, then support the engine and take the upper bell-housing bolts out. From below, remove the wheels, arch liners, exhaust section, drive shafts, lower arms and stabiliser links, lower the subframe, drain the gearbox and lower it on a jack. Refitting is the reverse, with the clutch system bled at the end.
Fits: platform codes 1.9, JTD, 16V, (126), |, (136), (140), JTDM, (150), (170)
- Opens: brake fluid, gearbox oil, fuel
Don't miss
- Leave the clutch slave cylinder hydraulic line connected if possible; just move the cylinder aside.
- Support the engine from above before releasing the left gearbox support and the upper attaching bolts.
- Lower the subframe on a jack only after the power steering hose brackets are released.
- Bleed the hydraulic clutch through the bleed valve after refitting, catching fluid in a container.
- General practice: mark the subframe position before lowering so wheel alignment is not disturbed.

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
