Note:
Cylinder heads which have cracks between the valve seats or between a valve seat insert and the spark plug thread can continue to be used without reducing service life, provided that the cracks do not exceed a max. width of 0.5 mm or when no more than the first spark plug threads are cracked.

Valve types
05.81 ä installation of valves with 3 grooves
Distinguishing features
Valve with 3 grooves on stem (previously one groove)
Valve taper with 3 beads (previously one bead)
Valve spring seat:
Surface copper-plated or yellow chromation (previously steel grey) with approx. 1.5 mm inner chamfer -arrow A- (previously no chamfer) and broad outer chamfer -arrow B-
Note:
When performing repairs, 1 and 3-groove valves can be mixed. It is to be noted that the respective valves are only to be installed with the envisaged valve tapers and valve spring seats.

Exchange cylinder heads with camshaft bearing shells
Exchange cylinder heads/exchange engines are sometimes supplied with bearing shells for camshafts.
Cylinder head with standard size camshaft
a = 26.00 mm dia.
Cylinder head with undersize camshaft
a = 25.75 mm dia. and dot of yellow paint on VW-Audi emblem
Note:
Undersize camshafts are not supplied as replacements. For repairs, install a standard size camshaft with corresponding bearing shells.

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
Seen a figure that does not match your manual? Write to us — we correct it and note when. support@torqfix.com
