Repairing humidity sender for air conditioning system G260 — VW
Repairing humidity sender for air conditioning system G260 on VW: 9 steps. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.
The humidity sender G260 is built into the rain and light sensor G397 behind the mirror, and on the VW platform codes listed below repairing it means renewing the sensor film rather than the whole sensor. The rain and light sensor comes off the windscreen, the old film and any residue are peeled from its face, and the sensor surfaces are wiped with cleaning solution. The new film is handled by its silicone backing paper and transparent protective film: the backing comes off, the film is laid onto the sensor and pressed down through the protective film so no bubbles are trapped, then the protective film is lifted away. The sensor is refitted. The whole job is about a clean surface and a bubble-free film; a trapped bubble gives a false reading and you do it again.
🧭 Before you start
Remove the rain and light sensor G397 and strip the old sensor film and residue from it, then clean the sensor surfaces with cleaning solution. Peel the silicone paper off the new film, place it with its protective film onto the sensor, and press it down through the protective film without bubbles. Pull the protective film off and refit the rain and light sensor.
Fits: platform code BL1
Don't miss
- Every trace of old film must come off the sensor face before cleaning.
- Press the new film down through the protective film, not with bare fingers.
- No bubbles under the film; lift and reposition rather than leave one.
- Remove the transparent protective film only after the film is fully pressed on.

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
