Repairing front coil spring suspension strut: VW Touareg I

Don't miss

• First compress spring far enough to ensure that upper spring plate is free. — Ensure that coil spring is seated correctly in spring retainerVAS 6046/3(arrow).
• Ensure that coil spring is seated correctly in spring retainerVAS 6046/3(arrow).
• Upper spring plate must be placed on spring so that raised portion (arrow) is opposite the coupling rod attachment (1).
• The end of the spring coil must lie against the upper damping ring (arrow 1).
• Ensure that protective sleeve is clipped into upper spring plate (arrow 2).

📋 Procedure

1. Remove coil spring strut .
2. Tension coil spring until upper spring plate is free.
3. Unscrew hexagon nut from piston rod.
4. Remove individual parts of strut and coil spring using spring tensionerVAS 6046 and spring retainersVAS 6046/3.
5. ⚠ First compress spring far enough to ensure that upper spring plate is free. — Ensure that coil spring is seated correctly in spring retainerVAS 6046/3(arrow).

6. Insert upper damping ring (2) in upper spring plate (1).
7. Set bottom of coil spring on spring retainerVAS 6046/3.
8. Ensure that coil spring is seated correctly in spring retainerVAS 6046/3(arrow).
9. Upper spring plate must be placed on spring so that raised portion (arrow) is opposite the coupling rod attachment (1).
10. The end of the spring coil must lie against the upper damping ring (arrow 1).
11. Ensure that protective sleeve is clipped into upper spring plate (arrow 2).
12. Tighten new hexagon nut on piston rod.
13. Relieve tension on spring compressorVAS 6046 and remove from coil spring.
14. Install suspension strut .
