  1. Pull swivel joint out of suspension link.
  2. Unscrew cap (1) from motor/pump unit (2).
  3. Draw off as much hydraulic fluid as possible from motor/pump unit using a suction bottle.
  4. Unscrew bolt (arrow) from universal joint (1) and pull off universal joint in (direction of arrow).
  5. Remove front wheels.
  6. Loosen nut (1) on track rod end (2) but do not remove completely.
  7. Press track rod ball joint (2) off steering arm.
  8. Remove hexagon nut (1) from coupling rod (left and right sides).
  9. Pull out coupling rod (3) from anti-roll bar (2) on left and right side.
  10. If fitted, pull connector (1) off power steering sensor G250.
  11. Unscrew banjo bolt (1) (19 mm) for pressure line from steering rack.
  12. Close off line with a plastic bag and adhesive tape.
  13. Unscrew retaining screw (1) (17 mm) for return hose from steering rack.
  14. Close off line with a plastic bag and adhesive tape.
  15. Seal power steering rack threaded holes with plastic sealing plugs.
  16. Remove steering rack bolts (arrows) from subframe.
  17. Fix position of subframe (all vehicles except for R WRC ).
  18. Fix position of subframe (R WRC ).
  19. Lower subframe using engine and gearbox jackV.A.G 1383 A.
  20. Take power steering rack out to rear.
  21. Secure subframe .
  22. Bolt swivel joint to suspension link with new nuts (arrows).
  23. Bolt steering rack to subframe (arrows).
  24. Bolt track rod to steering arm.
  25. If pulled off beforehand, connect connector (1) to power steering sensor G250.
  26. Screw union bolt (1) (17 mm) for return hose onto steering rack.
  27. Screw banjo bolt (1) (19 mm) for pressure line onto steering rack.
  28. If pressure line projects beyond subframe, adjust distance between pressure line and subframe.
  29. Distance between pressure line (1) and subframe (2) must be 10 mm.
  30. For example, check this with a drill bit (A) with a diameter of 10 mm by holding it between the pressure line (1) and the subframe (2).
  31. Then tighten the banjo bolt for the pressure line.
  32. Fill up with fresh hydraulic fluid - use a hose (approx. 400…5000 mm long) and a funnel to do this.
  33. Use hydraulic fluidG 004 000 M2.
  34. Install battery and battery holder Electrical system27Battery; Removing and installing battery.
  35. Position universal joint (1) onto steering pinion.
  36. Insert new hexagon bolt (arrow) and tighten.
  37. Connect earth strap of battery Electrical system27Battery; Removing and installing battery.
  38. Install wheels and tighten bolts or nuts .
  39. Bleed steering system .
  40. Check hydraulic fluid level .
  41. Check toe adjustment .

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
