📋 Procedure

  1. Remove engine cover panel (see the separate procedure).
  2. With ignition switched off, disconnect battery. Electrical system 27. Battery; Disconnecting and connecting battery
  3. Remove noise insulation General body repairs, exterior 50. Noise insulation; Assembly overview - noise insulation.
  4. Remove poly V-belt (see the separate procedure).
  5. Disconnect electrical connector (2) at pressure differential sender G505.

  1. Remove pressure differential sender G505 from bracket (3).
  2. Lay pressure differential sender G505 aside to rear together with lines.
  3. To do this, open quick-release couplings (A) and (B) of fuel lines.
  4. Catch any escaping fuel.
  5. Use a finger to release locking lug of fuel pre-heater valve.
  6. Pull fuel pre-heater valve upwards out of coolant expansion tank guide.
  7. Unclip fuel filter from lower part of fuel filter.
  8. Remove fuel filter upwards.
  9. Separate fuel supply line and return line at engine end.
  10. Remove fuel filter and fuel lines together with fuel preheater valve.
  11. Remove fuel filter lower part.
  12. Unscrew bolts (arrows) for coolant expansion tank.
  13. Disconnect electrical connector (1) for coolant shortage indicator switch F66.
  14. Open clips (arrows) and remove toothed belt guard.
  15. Remove front right wheel housing liner General body repairs, exterior 66. Wheel housing liner; Removing and installing wheel housing liner.
  16. Remove vibration damper (see the separate procedure).
  17. Remove bolts (arrows).
  18. Remove toothed belt guard downwards. [Note: Engine support must be removed to change tensioning roller and to remove and install toothed belt. The assembly mounting may only be removed if the engine is supported with support bracket10-222A!The engine support must only be loosened when the assembly mounting has been removed.]
  19. Remove engine support (see the separate procedure).
  20. Turn engine to TDC and lock crankshaft pulley in position with crankshaft stop T10050. Fit the crankshaft stop in the teeth from the face side of the toothed belt pulley.
  21. Mark direction of rotation of toothed belt.
  22. Loosen bolts (arrows) approx. 90° for camshaft toothed belt pulley.
  23. Loosen bolts (2) approx. 90° for high-pressure pump toothed belt pulley using bit XZN 10T10385.
  24. Loosen securing nut of tensioning roller (1) and turn tensioning roller eccentric using socket T10264 counter-clockwise (arrow) until tensioning roller can be locked with locking pin T10265.
  25. Now turn tensioning roller eccentric clockwise (arrow) onto stop and tighten securing nut (1) hand-tight.
  26. Loosen securing nut of tensioning roller, rotate eccentric of tensioning roller clockwise with socket T10409 until tensioning roller is relieved of tension. The tensioner of the tensioning roller should now be in the 9 o'clock position approximately.
  27. Retighten securing nut by hand.
  28. ⚠ Risk of irreparable damage if direction of rotation is reversed on previously used toothed belt. Before removing toothed belt, mark direction of rotation with chalk or felt tipped pen for installation purposes. — Remove toothed belt first from idler pulley and then from remaining toothed belt pulleys.

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.

Seen a figure that does not match your manual? Write to us — we correct it and note when. support@torqfix.com
