Removing gearbox, vehicles with petrol engine on VW: 66 steps, 1 torque figure. What to remove, what to tighten and to how many Nm, what to check after.

Workshop procedure for VW — the exact step sequence and torque figures, straight from real workshop data.

66 steps 1 torque figure torque figures merged from 5 documented variants

🧭 Before you start

Fits: platform codes AU1, BX5

  • Opens: brake fluid
  • Timing position: the crankshaft or camshaft is set and locked during this job

Don't miss

  • The relay lever must be removed before detaching the cable end-piece .
  • Brake fluid must not be allowed to get onto the longitudinal member or the gearbox. If this does happen, clean the affected areas thoroughly.
  • Clamping off the supply hose with the hose clamp3094 will cause a permanent deformation. However, this does not damage the supply hose. After removing the hose clamp3094, the supply hose must be returned to its original shape.
  • Risk of soiling due to escaping brake fluid.Do not operate clutch pedal after detaching pipe/hose assembly from bleeder connection on clutch slave cylinder. — Unscrew upper engine/gearbox connecting bolts (arrows).
  • If fitted, pull off electrical wiring in front area of web on both longitudinal members (arrow). Do not disconnect pipe/hose system.

🔩 Torque settings

Values can differ between engine variants — check the code stamped on your block.

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
