Removing gearbox, Passat 2011 ► with 3.6 l V6 engine (all-wheel drive) — VW
Removing gearbox, Passat 2011 ► with 3.6 l V6 engine (all-wheel drive) on VW: 33 steps, engines BWS, BYD, CBRA, CDLA.
This is gearbox removal on the all-wheel-drive Passat from 2011 with the 3.6 l V6 (BWS, BYD, CBRA, CDLA, CDLC and CDLF codes listed, chassis codes also listed below). It is a big job: the engine and gearbox are lowered together on support bracket 10 - 222 A before the gearbox can be separated. Air filter housing, starter, selector cable, coolant lines and upper bell-housing bolts come off from above; from below, the noise insulation, drive shafts, propshaft, drive shaft heat shield and gearbox carrier bolts. With the assembly hung from the bracket, bracket (A) is removed, the engine lowered to dimension (a) and the gearbox taken on gearbox support 3282 and a jack. Marking the propshaft position and handling the selector lever cable without bending it are what separate a clean job from a costly one.
🧭 Before you start
Raise the car level, select P, disconnect the battery and remove the air filter housing, starter and selector cable. Clamp and remove the coolant hoses, fit bracket T10013 and take out the upper connecting bolts. Underneath, remove drive shafts, mark and unbolt the propshaft and release the gearbox carrier. Support the engine with 10 - 222 A, lower it to dimension (a), take the gearbox on the jack and press it off the engine.
Fits: VW Golf V / Jetta (1K, 2003–2009), VW Passat B6 (3C, 2005–2010), VW Golf Cabriolet (517, 2011–2016), VW Golf VI (5K, 2008–2013); platform code 137
Don't miss
- All four lifting platform supports must be at the same height before starting.
- Mark the propshaft flexible coupling against the bevel box flange with paint before unbolting.
- Never bend the selector lever cable; free it from its bracket carefully.
- Support bracket 10 - 222 A sits on the longitudinal members, never on the wings.
- Tie both drive shafts up with belts T10038 so their joints do not hang.

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
