Removing gearbox; Golf 2009 ►, 1.8 l - 118 kW - petrol engine — VW

Removing gearbox; Golf 2009 ►, 1.8 l - 118 kW - petrol engine on VW: 35 steps. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.

For the Golf VI (5K, 2008–2013) with the 1.8 l 118 kW petrol engine and automatic gearbox, removal follows the same broad route as the smaller engines but with a different suspension approach. With the car level and the lever in P, the engine cover, air filter housing, battery, starter, selector cable and mechatronic connector are removed, and the upper bolts come out. Below, only the left transverse link is unbolted from the strut and the left coupling rod disconnected, so the left drive shaft can swing into the wheel housing. Bracket T10346 and support 10-222A hold the engine, and the gearbox drops on support 3282. Leaving the right transverse link alone is easy to miss.

35 steps

🧭 Before you start

Raise the car level, select P and clear the air box, battery, starter, selector cable and mechatronic connector. Remove the upper bolts, noise insulation, wheel housing liner, pendulum support and heat shield. Disconnect the left coupling rod and left transverse link, unbolt both drive shafts and remove the right flange shaft. Fit T10346 and the support bracket, lower the engine slightly, support the gearbox on 3282 and press it off.

Fits: VW Golf VI (5K, 2008–2013)

Don't miss

  • Only unscrew the left transverse link from the strut; do not touch the right one.
  • Fit a new securing clip on the selector lever cable at installation.
  • Bolt bracket T10346 to the rear of the 3 battery tray mounting holes.
  • Support under the gearbox housing, never under the mechatronic unit.
  • Plug the drive shaft opening after the flange shaft and compression spring are out.

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
