Installing gearbox, Golf, Golf Estate, front-wheel drive vehicle with petrol engine — VW
Installing gearbox, Golf, Golf Estate, front-wheel drive vehicle with petrol engine on VW: 67 steps. What to remove, in what order, and what to check.
Refitting the manual gearbox on the VW Golf VII and Golf VII Variant (5G1, BA5, 2012–2020) with front-wheel drive and a petrol engine. The gearbox goes onto gearbox support 3282 with pin 3282/29 and adapter VW 771/40 fitted, is raised on the jack and tilted on the support spindles to pass the subframe and longitudinal member, while a second mechanic pushes the engine slightly forwards. It is then rotated into position and joined on the engine dowel sleeves. Prepare before lifting: clean the input shaft splines, grease lightly, clean old locking fluid from threaded holes, and check the release bearing. Once bolted up, the gearbox mounting is aligned on the engine support bracket spindles and fitted with new bolts, tension-free. Selector, clutch bleeding and oil level follow.
🧭 Before you start
Prepare the splines, dowel sleeves and threaded holes, and check the release bearing. Mount the gearbox on support 3282, raise and tilt it past the subframe and join it to the engine. Fit the lower then upper connecting bolts, remove the support, and fit the bracket and mounting with new bolts after aligning the assembly. Bleed the clutch, refit the selector mechanism, starter, cooling, charge air, exhaust, pendulum support and drive shafts, then check gear oil level.
Fits: VW Golf VII Variant (BA), VW Golf VII (5G, 2012–2020)
- Opens: brake fluid, clutch fluid, gearbox oil

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
