Removing and installing selector mechanism without selector lever cable, manufacturer ECS — VW
Removing and installing selector mechanism without selector lever cable, manufacturer ECS on VW: 22 steps, engines CDLA, CDLC, CDLK, CJXB.
On cars with the ECS-made automatic selector mechanism, across the platform codes listed below, the selector unit comes out without removing the selector lever cable from the gearbox end. Access is from inside and underneath: the selector lever handle, centre console and console vent come off, the wiring connector is separated and the lever is put in N. Below the car, the centre tunnel heat shield and the cover under the selector are removed, the cable is released from the lever and its securing clip, and the selector mechanism drops out downwards once the nuts inside the car are undone. How the cable is treated decides the outcome: no kinks, no grease, and a fresh adjustment afterwards.
🧭 Before you start
Remove the lever handle, centre console and vent, unplug the selector wiring and shift to N. From underneath, take off the heat shield and lever away the cover under the selector, release the cable from the lever and remove its securing clip, then unbolt the unit from inside and lower it. Refit with a new clip and cover, reinstall the trim and adjust and check the selector lever cable.
Fits: VW Sharan II / SEAT Alhambra (7N, 2010–); platform code 138
- Renewed: after removing, securing clip
Don't miss
- The cover under the selector mechanism must not be reused; always renew it.
- Do not bend or kink the selector lever cable, and do not grease it.
- Fit a new securing clip when reattaching the cable to the selector lever.
- Shift to N before releasing the cable, then adjust and check the cable after installation.

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
