Removing and installing right trim on seat: VW Jetta VI
Step-by-step removing and installing right trim on seat for the VW Jetta VI: 9 steps. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.
The right-hand trim on the front seat is the plastic cover over the seat frame on the buckle side, and on the platform codes listed below (162 and AV2) it cannot be unclipped with the seat in the car: the factory procedure starts with the seat out. With the seat on the bench, the spreader clip holding the trim is removed, the belt buckle is pulled outwards to clear the cover, and the front catches are released so the trim lifts off the seat frame. Refitting is the reverse. The job is undemanding, but two things decide how it ends: the small spreader clip and the front catches break easily if levered, and the factory procedure tells you to check every fastener for damage before refitting and renew any that are suspect.
🧭 Before you start
Access is the main part of the work: the front seat comes out first, because the trim is held from the seat-frame side. On the bench the spreader clip is removed, the belt buckle is moved outwards, and the front catches are released to lift the trim off the frame. Installation is the removal in reverse, after the clips and catches have been inspected.
Fits: VW Jetta VI (16, 2010–2018); platform code AV2
- Renewed: if necessary
Don't miss
- Seat must be removed first; the trim does not come off with the seat in the car.
- Spreader clip (3) comes out before the trim; do not lever the trim against it.
- Pull the belt buckle outwards so it clears the trim before releasing the front catches.
- Check all fasteners for damage before refitting and renew any that are cracked or loose.
- Work on a clean padded bench so the trim and catches are not scratched or crushed under the seat.

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
