Removing and installing rear centre console trim: VW Touareg II

Step-by-step removing and installing rear centre console trim for the VW Touareg II: 9 steps, 5 torque figures.

The rear centre console trim on the VW Touareg II 2010–2018 (7P) is a quick piece of interior work once the rear vents are out of the way. With the ignition off, the rear vents are removed, the connector of the rear air conditioning operating and display unit is unplugged if one is fitted, and the bolts holding the trim are undone; they are small fasteners torqued to only 1.5 Nm, so a proper small torque driver is wanted rather than feel. The lower section of the trim is released, the trim is swung upwards until it unclips audibly and lifted away from the console, then any remaining connections are disconnected. Refitting is the reverse, and the check at the end is the fit: fold the armrests up and make sure the trim and console meet properly around the armrests and along the side joins.

🧭 Before you start

Ignition off, rear vents out and the air conditioning operating unit connector disconnected where fitted. The bolts on the trim are undone, the lower section is released, the trim is swung up until it unclips and taken off the console, and the connections are separated. It goes back in reverse order, followed by a check of the fit around the armrests and along the side joins to the centre console.

Fits: VW Touareg II (7P, 2010–2018)

Don't miss

  • Remove the rear vents first; the trim is bolted behind them.
  • The trim bolts are tightened to only 1.5 Nm; do not overtighten them.
  • Swing the trim upwards until you hear it unclip rather than pulling it straight off.
  • After refitting, fold the armrests up and check the trim and console mate correctly there.
  • Check the side joins between trim and centre console are even.

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
