🧭 Before you start

Fits: VW Passat B7 saloon (362, 2010–2014), VW Passat B7 Variant (365, 2010–2014), VW CC (358, 2012–2017)

Don't miss

  • Mark piston installation position and corresponding cylinder number.
  • Mark conrod installation position and corresponding cylinder number .
  • If the piston pin is difficult to move, heat the piston to approx. 60°C.
  • To fit the pistons, the funnel T10333 with inserted piston is positioned on the cylinder block so that the straight edge of the high funnel plate (arrow) points to the middle of the cylinder block.
  • Pull dowel sleeve (arrow) out of its bore before installing pistons.

📋 Procedure

  1. Removing cylinder head .
  2. Remove sump .
  3. Mark piston installation position and corresponding cylinder number.
  4. Mark conrod installation position and corresponding cylinder number .
  5. Remove conrod bearing cap and withdraw piston and conrod upwards. [Note: If the piston pin is difficult to move, heat the piston to approx. 60°C.]

  1. Remove circlip from piston pin eye.
  2. Drive out piston pin using driftVW 222 A. [Note: To fit the pistons, the funnel T10333 with inserted piston is positioned on the cylinder block so that the straight edge of the high funnel plate (arrow) points to the middle of the cylinder block.] [Note: Replace bolts that are tightened with specified tightening angle.Offset piston ring gaps by 120°.]
  3. Pull dowel sleeve (arrow) out of its bore before installing pistons.
  4. The pistons for cylinders 1, 3 and 5 must be installed so that the deep valve pockets (1) point to the middle of the cylinder block and the arrows (3) to the vibration damper.
  5. The pistons for cylinders 2, 4 and 6 must be installed so that the deep valve pockets (2) point to the middle of the cylinder block and the arrows (3) to the vibration damper.
  6. Insert piston for relevant cylinder into funnel T10333 from above. Short piston side (arrow) must project approx. 15 mm out of lower edge of funnel.
  7. Now place piston with piston fitting tool in respective cylinder bore. The higher side of the piston fitting tool (arrow) must face middle of cylinder block for this.
  8. Firmly position piston fitting tool on cylinder block and push piston fully into cylinder bore.
  9. Once piston has been installed, relocate dowel sleeve (arrow) in its bore.
  10. Oil running surfaces of bearing shells.
  11. Install conrod bearing cap, noting installation position and torque setting .
  12. Install sump .
  13. Installing cylinder head .

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
