Fits: VW Phaeton (3D)
Don't miss
- Mark piston installation position and corresponding cylinder number .
- Mark conrod installation position and corresponding cylinder number .
- If the piston pin is difficult to move, heat the piston to approx. 60°C.
- If a new piston fitting tool T10147 is used to install the pistons, first pass piston with oiled piston rings twice through the tool and then remove any resulting metal shavings. Only then install piston with piston rings.
- The pistons for cylinders 1, 3 and 5 must be installed so that the deep valve pockets (1) point to the middle of the cylinder block and the arrows (3) to the vibration damper.

📋 Procedure
- Remove engine.
- Separate engine and gearbox.
- Securing engine to assembly stand.
- Removing cylinder head .
- Remove sump .
- Mark piston installation position and corresponding cylinder number .
- Mark conrod installation position and corresponding cylinder number .
- Remove conrod bearing cap and withdraw piston and conrod upwards.
- Lever circlip out of piston pin eye. [Note: If the piston pin is difficult to move, heat the piston to approx. 60°C.]
- Drive out piston pin using driftVW 222 A. [Note: If a new piston fitting tool T10147 is used to install the pistons, first pass piston with oiled piston rings twice through the tool and then remove any resulting metal shavings. Only then install piston with piston rings.]
- The pistons for cylinders 1, 3 and 5 must be installed so that the deep valve pockets (1) point to the middle of the cylinder block and the arrows (3) to the vibration damper.
- The pistons for cylinders 2, 4 and 6 must be installed so that the deep valve pockets (2) point to the middle of the cylinder block and the arrows (3) to the vibration damper.
- Push piston into oiled funnel T10147 by hand. Deep valve pockets must face lug on piston fitting tool (arrow).
- Hold tool (with piston inserted) on upper edge and press piston in with both thumbs.
- Push piston in until it protrudes approx. 15 mm from the lower edge of the piston fitting tool.
- Place piston in respective cylinder bore. Lug on piston fitting tool (arrow) must face centre of cylinder block.
- Hold fitting tool tightly against cylinder block and push piston in.
- Oil running surfaces of bearing shells.
- Install conrod bearing cap, noting installation position and torque setting .
- Install sump .
- Installing cylinder head .

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
Seen a figure that does not match your manual? Write to us — we correct it and note when. support@torqfix.com
