Removing and installing mounting plate for oil cooler, pressure control valve and oil filter housing — VW
Removing and installing mounting plate for oil cooler, pressure control valve and oil filter housing on VW: 9 steps, 1 torque figure, engines BKS, BMK.
Removing the mounting plate that carries the oil cooler, pressure control valve and oil filter housing on the engines listed below, platform code 3D2. The plate sits beneath the intake manifolds, so a fair amount comes off first. Raise the car on its air suspension by activating jacking mode, remove the noise insulation and drain the coolant. Then the upper intake manifold, the left and right lower intake manifolds and the exhaust gas recirculation cooler come out. Eight bolts (1 to 8) hold the plate, and it lifts out as an assembly. The key points are new gaskets, seals and O-rings throughout, and tightening the plate bolts from the inside outwards to 9 Nm so it pulls down evenly.
🧭 Before you start
Activate jacking mode, remove the noise insulation and drain the coolant. Remove the upper and both lower intake manifolds and the EGR cooler, unscrew bolts 1 to 8 and lift out the plate with cooler, valve and filter housing. Refit with new seals, tighten the bolts from the inside outwards and reinstall the removed parts before refilling coolant.
Fits: VW Phaeton (3D)
- Opens: coolant
- Renewed: gaskets
Don't miss
- Activate jacking mode on the air suspension before lifting the car.
- Renew all gaskets, seals and O-rings.
- Tighten the mounting plate bolts from the inside outwards to 9 Nm.
- Refill the cooling system after reassembly.

🔩 Torque settings
Values can differ between engine variants — check the code stamped on your block.
| Torque | Fastener / step |
|---|---|
| 9 Nm (6.6 lb-ft) | Tighten bolts securing mounting plate from the inside outwards |
ℹ️ Always cross-check the exact figure against your vehicle's factory manual before final tightening — a wrong torque can damage the engine. These values are extracted from workshop data and may not cover every variant or revision.

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
