Removing and installing electric drive motor: VW Golf VI

Step-by-step removing and installing electric drive motor for the VW Golf VI: 40 steps, 12 torque figures.

Removing the electric drive motor V141 on the electric Golf VI 2008–2013 (5K1) combines high-voltage work, cooling system work and a conventional engine-and-gearbox drop. The high-voltage system is de-energised and the 12V battery disconnected, the coolant hoses are clamped and drained, and the drive shafts (50 Nm + 45°) and the pendulum support nut (100 Nm + 90°) are undone. The charger and high-voltage wiring are detached, the power electronics cover comes off, and the high-voltage cables are freed after cutting the screening stars. The motor is then supported on the scissor platform and lowered once the mounting bolts are out. Clean, grease-free equipotential bonding contacts, all fasteners renewed and torqued, and correct coolant pump position decide whether it goes back right.

40 steps 12 torque figures

🧭 Before you start

De-energise the high-voltage system, disconnect the 12V battery, remove the sound proofing and wheel housing liner, clamp and drain the coolant. Undo the drive shafts and pendulum support, set the charger aside and detach the high-voltage wiring, equipotential conductors and power electronics connections. Support the motor on the scissor platform, remove the mounting bolts and lower it out. On installation renew all loosened nuts and bolts, tighten to specification, seal with inspection lacquer and check the coolant pump clip arrow points upwards.

Fits: VW Golf VI (5K, 2008–2013)

  • Opens: coolant
  • Special tools named: VAS 5085, VAS 6410
  • Renewed: all loosened nuts

Don't miss

  • High-voltage de-energising and recommissioning must be done by a qualified technician.
  • Clean the equipotential bonding contact surfaces until rust- and grease-free before refitting.
  • Cut the screening stars so the high-voltage wires are not damaged.
  • Renew every nut and bolt that was loosened.
  • Arrow 3 on the coolant pump clip must point upwards.
  • Mark tightened fasteners with inspection lacquer.

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
