Removing and installing desiccant bag or cartridge: VW Touareg II
Step-by-step removing and installing desiccant bag or cartridge for the VW Touareg II: 22 steps, 4 torque figures.
Workshop procedure for VW — the exact step sequence and torque figures, straight from real workshop data.
🧭 Before you start
Fits: VW Touareg II (7P, 2010–2018)
- Opens: refrigerant (A/C)
- Timing position: the crankshaft or camshaft is set and locked during this job
Don't miss
- Observe risk category of high-voltage system 93General warning instructions for work on the high-voltage system.
- Lightly moisten new O-rings (C) of new sealing cap (A) with refrigerant oil before installing.
- It is absolutely necessary to assure the high-voltage system is switched to "no voltage" when charging the refrigerant circuit.
🔩 Torque settings
Values can differ between engine variants — check the code stamped on your block.
| Torque | Fastener / step |
|---|---|
| 2 Nm (1.5 lb-ft) | Unscrew sealing cap (1 |
| 25 Nm (18 lb-ft) | Fold back air guide on left and right of air guide aperture (arrow) and remove bolts (A |
| 5 Nm (3.7 lb-ft) | Ensure proper seating of cap (5 |
| 5 Nm (3.7 lb-ft) | Unscrew cap (5 |
ℹ️ Always cross-check the exact figure against your vehicle's factory manual before final tightening — a wrong torque can damage the engine. These values are extracted from workshop data and may not cover every variant or revision.

- Renew sealing cap (A) with O-rings (C)Parts catalogue.
- Lightly moisten new O-rings (C) of new sealing cap (A) with refrigerant oil before installing.
- Remove new dryer bag (D) from package and install it Parts catalogue. [Note: It is absolutely necessary to assure the high-voltage system is switched to "no voltage" when charging the refrigerant circuit.] [Note: Do not install a dryer bag which has been unpacked longer than absolutely necessary and has consequently absorbed moisture (e.g. one which was stored without packaging or of which the packaging was damaged). Refer to workshop manual Air conditioning system with refrigerant R134a00Renewing components.A dryer bag which has been exposed to air will be saturated with moisture in a short time and can no longer be used.]
- A second mechanic is required when inserting the bolts for the radiator module mounting.
- The remaining steps for installation are carried out in reverse order.

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
Seen a figure that does not match your manual? Write to us — we correct it and note when. support@torqfix.com
