Removing and installing curtain airbag on driver and passenger side — VW
Removing and installing curtain airbag on driver and passenger side on VW: 25 steps, 1 torque figure.
Removing and installing the curtain airbag on either side of the vehicles with the platform code listed below (137). The airbag runs along the roof edge, so a lot of trim comes out: dash end trim, A-pillar trims, bench seat, roof end strip, C-pillar and side trims, the B-pillar trim released from its retainers, sun visor, and finally the headlining lowered. Treat it as a pyrotechnic job: battery off, discharge yourself before touching the connector, and keep the module away from static. The airbag is held by five clips released with straight O-ring pliers plus one bolt at 4.5 Nm. If any of the five clips is damaged on removal, the airbag must be renewed, not refitted.
🧭 Before you start
Disconnect the battery and remove the dash end trim, A-pillar trims, bench seat, roof end strip, C-pillar and side trims, release the B-pillar trim, remove the sun visor and lower the headlining. Discharge yourself, unplug the airbag, release the five clips with O-ring pliers and remove the bolt. Fit in reverse, tightening the bolt to 4.5 Nm, then switch the ignition on and reconnect the battery with nobody in the car.
Fits: platform code 137
Don't miss
- Discharge static from yourself before unplugging the airbag connector.
- If any of the five clips is damaged, renew the curtain airbag.
- Tighten the bolt to 4.5 Nm.
- Protect the backrest covers with a foam cushion; do not push down on the centre mounting.
- Reconnect the battery with ignition on and nobody in the vehicle.

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
