Removing and installing air recirculation flap control motor V113 on VW: 19 steps. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.
Workshop procedure for VW — the exact step sequence and torque figures, straight from real workshop data.
🧭 Before you start
Fits: platform code A32
Don't miss
- After installing air recirculation flap control motor V113, push gear (1) back onto shaft of fresh air/air recirculation flap.
- After installing air recirculation flap control motor V113, check operation of air recirculation flap.Initiate "“Basic setting”" using .Testing
📋 Procedure
- Switch off all electrical consumers.
- Switch off ignition.
- Remove ignition key.
- Switch on ignition and wait until air recirculation flap control motor V113 has reached its end position in "“fresh air mode”".
- Switch off ignition.
- Remove glove compartment General body repairs, interior68Compartments/covers; Removing and installing glove compartment.
- Release catches (B) and (C) for retainer (A) on intake duct and remove retainer (A).
- Disconnect connector from control motor (B).
- Remove air recirculation flap control motor V113(B in direction of arrow) from air intake duct. [Note: The connection between the gears of the control motor and the fresh air / air recirculation flap is designed so that the control motor can be removed without trouble only in the "“fresh air mode”" position (the intake opening for air recirculation above the fresh air / air recirculation flap (A) is closed). If the control motor is in a different position and can no longer move, the control motor must not simply be pulled off. First, it must be released from its mounting points (C) with force. During this operation, ensure that gear (D) is not damaged.] [Note: The control motor is supplied as a replacement part in the position "“fresh air mode”". It can be pushed onto the gear of the fresh air and air recirculation flap only if gear (A) is at stop (B). If a control motor is removed in a different position or actuated before it is removed, it cannot be installed. If the gear (A) of the control motor is not at stop (B)"“fresh air mode”", proceed as follows:]
- Connect control motor to vehicle wiring harness.
- Switch on ignition.
- Wait until gear (A) of control motor has reached stop (B)"“fresh air mode”".
- Switch off ignition.
- Reach into intake opening for recirculated air mode and move fresh air / air recirculation flap (A) to "“fresh air mode”" position (air duct opening for recirculated air mode is closed).
- Insert air recirculation flap control motor V113(B) in mountings (C) against direction of arrow and onto gear (D). [Note: In order for the gear on the control motor (A) to be pushed onto the gear for the fresh air / air recirculation flap, the short tooth (C) of the control motor gear must align with the short gap between teeth (D) of the gear on the shaft of the fresh air / air recirculation flap (D).]
- After installing air recirculation flap control motor V113, push gear (1) back onto shaft of fresh air/air recirculation flap.
- Route wiring harness so that it cannot come into contact with any moving parts (e.g. actuating arm on control motor).
- Install retainer (A), paying particular attention to ensure guide of retainer (D) is properly inserted in support of air intake duct (E) and retainer is properly engaged in both catches (B) and (C). [Note: The position of the control motor (and of the flap) is no longer visible when the glove compartment is installed, so it is prudent to check its function before installing the glove compartment. If the two gears have been assembled in the wrong position, it will be noticeable that the fresh air and air recirculation flap will not reach its two end positions or the control motor does not run smoothly without catching.]
- Reinstall parts in reverse order of removal. [Note: After installing air recirculation flap control motor V113, check operation of air recirculation flap.Initiate "“Basic setting”" using .Testing]

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
