Removing and installing 4-way lumbar support: VW Touareg II
Step-by-step removing and installing 4-way lumbar support for the VW Touareg II: 27 steps. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.
Renewing the four-way lumbar support in a Touareg II (7P, 2010–2018) front seat is a bench job with the seat out and secured on repair stand VAS 6136. Because the seat carries pyrotechnic components, the airbag and belt tensioner safety rules apply before any connector is separated. Head restraint, belt buckle, both side trims and the backrest cover come off, then the cover and pad are peeled back, which means pulling apart a stubborn Velcro-type fastening. The unit is held to the frame by a rivet that has to be drilled out. On refit a plastic washer must sit between the lumbar support and frame before the new rivet goes in, and the motor connectors must click home fully, or you will be stripping the seat again.
🧭 Before you start
Mount the seat on VAS 6136, observe pyrotechnic safety, and remove head restraint, belt buckle, trims and backrest cover. Peel back cover and pad, separating the Velcro fastening, drill out the rivet, unplug both motors and unhook the lumbar support from the frame. Refit with clips checked, plastic washer in place and a new rivet, then slide a plastic sheet over the Velcro to refit the pad, pull it out and press the fastening home. Reconnect the motors and connect the battery with the ignition on.
Fits: VW Touareg II (7P, 2010–2018)
Don't miss
- Insert the plastic washer between lumbar support and frame before riveting.
- Lay a plastic sheet between seat cover and frame when drilling; metal chips damage the cover.
- Push each motor connector fully onto its stop until it engages audibly.
- Connect the battery only with ignition on; seat pyrotechnics are present.
- Check both clips for the lumbar support are in the backrest before hooking it in.

- Ensure that lumbar support is connected with assembly securing device (4) or an appropriate pin to support (2).
- Check that both clips for four-way lumbar support (2) are inserted in backrest (1).
- Hook four-way lumbar support into backrest.
- Plastic washer (1) must be inserted between lumbar support (2) and backrest frame (3) before rivet is secured (4).

- ⚠ Battery must be connected with ignition switched on. If pyrotechnic components (e.g. airbag, seat belt tensioners) are repaired incorrectly, undesired triggering may occur after the battery is connected. Ensure that nobody is in vehicle when connecting battery. — Reconnect battery ground cable with ignition switched on Electrical system27. [Note: If airbag warning lamp K75 indicates a fault following installation, event memory must be read, deleted and read again .]

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
