Lower fastening point of rear seat belt - remove and install — VW
Lower fastening point of rear seat belt - remove and install on VW: 8 steps, 1 torque figure. What to remove, what to tighten and to how many Nm, what to.
Removing and refitting the lower anchorage of a rear seat belt on the vehicles with the platform codes listed below (5U1, 5U2, 5U8, 5U9). The anchorage is hidden behind the rear trim, so the seat backrest and the upper C-pillar lining come out first. One securing bolt then holds the lower fastening point; once it is undone the anchorage can be lifted away and the belt worked on or replaced. Refitting is the reverse, with the bolt tightened to 40 Nm. It is a short job, but it is a restraint system: make sure the anchor sits flat in its mounting and the belt is not twisted before the trim goes back on.
🧭 Before you start
Remove the rear seat backrest and the upper C-pillar lining. Unscrew the securing bolt and take off the lower fastening point. Fit the anchorage, tighten the bolt to 40 Nm, then refit the lining and backrest.
Fits: platform codes 5U8, 5U9, 5U2, 5U1
Don't miss
- Tighten the securing bolt to 40 Nm.
- Check the anchorage sits flat in its mounting before torquing.
- Make sure the belt webbing is not twisted before the lining goes back.
- General practice: check the belt retracts and locks properly after refitting.

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
