Hub with wheel bearing (►04/13) - install — VW

Hub with wheel bearing (►04/13) - install on VW: 15 steps. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.

Installing a hub with wheel bearing (cars up to 04/13) into the wheel bearing housing on models with the platform codes listed below. The bearing housing bore and the retaining washer groove are cleaned and the housing surface greased with G 052 723 A2, then the hub and bearing are drawn in on claws T10064/6A until the retaining washer clicks into place. After that it is reassembly: drive shaft, wishbone swivel joint, brake disc and caliper, track rod end, coupling rod, wheel and the twelve-point grooved nut. Two points decide the result: keeping the hub square so it never tilts going in, and renewing every self-locking nut and angle-tightened bolt.

15 steps

🧭 Before you start

Clean out the retaining washer groove and the suspension bore, and lubricate the bearing housing surface with molybdenum grease. Fit claws T10064/6A, making sure the wheel bolts do not protrude behind them, and press the hub in straight until the retaining washer engages audibly. Refit the drive shaft, wishbone joint screws on their old markings, brakes, track rod end and coupling rod, then the wheel and grooved nut, and finish with a wheel alignment check.

Fits: VW Fox (5Z)

  • Renewed: self-locking nuts
  • Also covered elsewhere: Install and tighten the grooved nut (dodecagonal)

Don't miss

  • Do not tilt the hub while pressing it in; stop when the retaining washer clicks.
  • Wheel bolts must not protrude from the back of the claws T10064/6A.
  • Renew self-locking nuts and angle-tightened bolts; fit wishbone screws on the old markings.
  • Check drive shaft boots are not damaged or twisted, then check wheel alignment.

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
