Dismantling and assembling drive shaft with triple roller joint AAR3300i (pushed onto stub shaft) — VW
Dismantling and assembling drive shaft with triple roller joint AAR3300i (pushed onto stub shaft) on VW: 39 steps.
Overhauling a drive shaft that uses the AAR3300i triple roller inner joint pushed onto a stub shaft, on the platform code listed below. With the shaft out of the car and clamped in protective jaws, the outer constant velocity joint is pulled off with the puller and multi-purpose tool, and a new retaining ring fitted. At the inner end the clamp is opened, the joint body pulled off, the retaining ring removed and the triple roller star pressed off. Reassembly is clean parts, small clip and boot on the shaft, roller star pressed on to its stop without exceeding 3.0t, then 70 grams of grease into the joint and 60 grams into its rear. The hard boot needs a stainless clamp, tightened with the clamp tensioner and a torque wrench.
🧭 Before you start
Remove and clamp the drive shaft, pull the outer joint off with the puller and fit a new retaining ring. Open the inner clamp, pull off the joint body, remove the retaining ring and press off the triple roller star. Clean everything, fit the clip, boot and joint body, press the star on to its stop, fit the retaining ring, pack the grease and tension the stainless steel clamp.
Fits: platform code 138
- Special tools named: puller, torque wrench
Don't miss
- Do not exceed 3.0t when pressing the triple roller star onto the shaft.
- Pack 70 grams of grease into the joint and 60 grams into the rear of it.
- Make sure the boot engages properly in the groove of the adapter.
- Tension the stainless clamp with the tensioner square to the clamp; do not cant the pliers.

- Assemble puller T10382 complete with multi-purpose toolVW 771.
- Pull constant velocity joint from drive shaft with puller T10382 and multi-purpose toolVW 771.
- Install new retaining ring.
- If necessary, push new joint boot onto drive shaft.
- Knock onto shaft with plastic hammer until circlip engages.
- Clamp drive shaft in vice using protective jaw covers.
- Open clamp on inner joint and push boot back off adapter.
- Pull joint body off drive shaft.
- Remove retaining ring.
- Set drive shaft into press.
- Press triple roller star off drive shaft.
- Pull boot off shaft.
- Clean shaft, joint body and groove for seal.
- Push small hose clip for boot onto shaft.
- Push joint boot onto shaft.
- Push joint body onto shaft.
- Fit triple roller star onto shaft and press on to stop.
- Ensure that pressure does not exceed 3.0t.
- If necessary, coat splines of drive shafts and triple roller star with lubricating pasteG 052 142 A2.
- Insert retaining ring, ensuring that it is seated correctly.
- Press 70 grams of drive shaft grease from repair set into triple roller joint.
- Slide joint body over rollers and hold.
- Press 60 grams of drive shaft grease from repair kit into rear of triple roller joint.
- Install joint boot.
- Push joint boot onto adapter.
- Make sure that the joint boot engages properly in groove in adapter (arrow).
- Position clamp tensionerV.A.G 1682 as shown in diagram. Ensure jaws of tool contact corners (arrows B) of clamp.
- Tighten clamp by turning spindle with a torque wrench (do not cant pliers). [Note: Because a stainless steel boot clamp is required due to the hard material of the joint boot (compared to rubber), it is possible to tighten the clamp only with clamp tensionerV.A.G 1682.Specified torque: 25 Nm.Torque wrenchV.A.G 1331(C).Make sure thread of spindle (A) on pliers moves freely. Lubricate with Mo S2 grease if necessary. If the thread is tight (e.g. due to dirt), the required clamping force for the clip will not be attained although the correct torque is applied.]

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
