Clutch pedal - remove and install — VW
Clutch pedal - remove and install on VW: 11 steps. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.
Swapping a clutch pedal on the VW platform codes listed below is a footwell job done lying across the driver's floor, not a gearbox job. The pedal comes out once the left-side footwell air duct and the impact absorption bar are out of the way, which gives you room to reach the master cylinder push rod and the pedal pivot. The push rod is released from the pedal with pliers T10005, the support spring comes off, and the pedal bearing pin is turned with a 10 mm Allen key until the pedal can be shifted and the pin drawn out. On the way back the workshop steps call for a new bearing pin, so have it on the bench before you start. Getting the spring and pin back in cleanly is what decides whether the pedal feels right afterwards.
🧭 Before you start
Access is the left footwell air duct and the impact absorption bar, both removed first. The clutch master cylinder is then released from the pedal with pliers T10005, the support spring is unhooked, and the bearing pin is turned with a 10 mm Allen key and withdrawn by moving the pedal, which frees the pedal itself. Fitting goes the other way with a new bearing pin, the return spring refitted, and the impact absorption bar bolted back in.
Fits: VW Fox (5Z)
Don't miss
- The pedal bearing pin is renewed on installation; do not refit the old one.
- Turn the bearing pin with a 10 mm Allen key in the arrowed direction before trying to move the pedal.
- Release the master cylinder from the pedal with pliers T10005 rather than levering the push rod.
- Refit the return spring before the impact absorption bar goes back on.
- Check the pedal returns fully and the clutch bites normally before handing the car back.

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
