Workshop procedure for VW — the factory write-up, straight from real workshop data.
📋 Procedure
Checking radio controlled clock
Note
Additional information:
For the settings of the radio controlled clock refer to the
Operating manual
.
Connector pin assignment
Current flow diagrams, Electrical fault finding and Fitting locations
Checking setting of radio controlled clock in dash panel insert
Switch on ignition.
Push clock set button on dash panel insert for 2 seconds
Operating manual
.
If
»0«
or
»1«
are displayed, the dash panel insert is set to radio controlled clock mode.
If necessary, push set button again to change mode.
»0«
= no radio controlled clock,
»1«
= radio controlled clock.
If neither
»0«
nor
»1«
are displayed, the dash panel insert is not set to radio controlled clock mode, and only the crystal-controlled clock mode is possible.
Synchronising radio-controlled clock with receiver for radio-controlled clock
Perform a reset via terminal 30.
Connect battery.
Switch off ignition.
After 30 seconds, the synchronisation between radio-controlled clock and receiver is initiated automatically for 10 minutes (radio tower symbol on display of dash panel insert flashes).
During synchronisation, +5 V are supplied to the receiver of the radio-controlled clock via pin T32a/1
Current flow diagrams, Electrical fault finding and Fitting locations
.
If the synchronisation has not been completed successfully after 10 minutes, 2 more synchronisation attempts are performed at the full hour after the ignition has been switched
»ON/OFF«
.
If 3 synchronisation attempts have failed, additional attempts are only possible, if the vehicle has changed its location and after the ignition has been switched
»ON/OFF«
.
Note
If there is no signal for the radio-controlled clock, this may also be due to the vehicle position (orientation) and/or the local conditions (deadspot).
Checking signal line between radio-controlled clock and receiver
During synchronisation, +5 V are supplied to the receiver of the radio-controlled clock via pin T32a/1 on the dash panel insert.
This signal is a varying square wave signal used as a carrier for the modulation of the DCF signal from the receiver to the radio-controlled clock.
The signal can be checked on the dash panel insert using the
“Scope function”
of the
vehicle diagnostic tester
Current flow diagrams, Electrical fault finding and Fitting locations
.
Pin assignment on dash panel insert:
PIN T32a/1 = +5 V
PIN T32a/10 = earth
PIN T32a/3 = DCF signal

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
Seen a figure that does not match your manual? Write to us — we correct it and note when. support@torqfix.com
