Checking intake manifold change-over, only for vehicles with intake manifold change-over — VW

Checking intake manifold change-over, only for vehicles with intake manifold change-over on VW: 19 steps.

Workshop procedure for VW — the exact step sequence and torque figures, straight from real workshop data.

🧭 Before you start

  • Special tools named: V.A.G 1390
  • Renewed: intake manifold upper part

Don't miss

  • The variable intake manifold change-over actuator is integrated in the manifold and is therefore not visible from the outside.

📋 Procedure

  1. Check vacuum pipes for correct connection and or .
  2. Check vacuum hoses for porosity.
  3. Check vacuum system for leaks.
  4. Pull vacuum hose to variable intake manifold actuator (arrow) off variable intake manifold valve (1). [Note: The variable intake manifold change-over actuator is integrated in the manifold and is therefore not visible from the outside.]
  5. Fit hand vacuum pumpV.A.G 1390 to vacuum testerV.A.G 1368 connection "“B”".

  1. Fit vacuum hose to actuator to vacuum testerV.A.G 1368 connection "“A”".
  2. Set vacuum tester to "“A/B”" position.
  3. Operate V.A.G 1390 several times. Create a vacuum of maximum 500 millibar.
  4. Renew intake manifold upper part .
  5. Pull vacuum hose to variable intake manifold actuator (arrow) off variable intake manifold valve 2 (1).
  6. Fit hand vacuum pumpV.A.G 1390 to vacuum testerV.A.G 1368 connection "“B”".
  7. Fit vacuum hose to actuator to vacuum testerV.A.G 1368 connection "“A”".
  8. Set vacuum tester to "“A/B”" position.
  9. Operate V.A.G 1390 several times. Create a vacuum of maximum 500 millibar.
  10. Renew intake manifold lower part or .
  11. Check change-over mechanics in intake manifold for freedom of movement.
  12. Remove intake manifold upper part.
  13. Repeat leak tests on both vacuum actuators. Check that the change-over flaps move.
  14. Renew intake manifold upper part or intake manifold lower part.

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
