Adjusting the automatic distance regulation sensor: VW Touareg II
Step-by-step adjusting the automatic distance regulation sensor for the VW Touareg II: 26 steps. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.
Adjusting the automatic distance regulation (ACC) radar sensor on the Touareg II 2010–2018 (7P). It is an alignment-bay job: the car sits at normal level on the wheel alignment platform with jacking mode active, a battery charger connected and the diagnostic tester cable run through an open window with the doors otherwise closed. Rear wheel transducers go on with run-out compensation, the fog lamp covers come off and the sensor lens is cleaned. Setting device VAS 6430 is then placed centrally at distance (a), levelled, and its laser aimed at the middle of the sensor lens. The result depends on that laser still hitting the lens centre after the front toe values have been equalised.
🧭 Before you start
Select the dual radar ACC routine on the alignment computer, put the car at normal level in jacking mode on the platform and connect a charger and the diagnostic tester. Fit rear transducers, compensate run-out, remove the fog lamp covers and clean the sensor lens. Position and level VAS 6430 in front of the car, aim the laser at the lens centre, equalise the front toe values with the fine adjusting screw and recheck the laser, then run the adjustment from the diagnostic tester.
Fits: VW Touareg II (7P, 2010–2018)
- Special tools named: VAS 6430, VAS 6430/3
Don't miss
- Doors stay closed during the setting; route the diagnostic cable through an open window.
- Clean any dirt off the sensor lens before aiming the laser.
- Both spirit levels on VAS 6430 must read horizontal before aiming.
- Set equal individual front toe values, then recheck the laser still hits the lens centre.

📋 Procedure
- Click button for ACC setting with dual radar in wheel alignment computer.
- Note testing preconditions for wheel alignment .
- Move vehicle to normal level.
- Activate jacking mode .
- Drive car onto wheel alignment platform.
- Connect battery charger Electrical system; general information27.
- Connect vehicle diagnosis, testing and information systemVAS 5051 B to the car. (Route diagnostic cable through open window.) [Note: During the setting procedure, make sure that all the car doors remain closed and that the car's outside lighting is switched off.]
- Move front wheels to straight-ahead position.
- Mount quick-release clamps on rear wheels.
- Fit measurement transducers to rear wheels.
- Carry out wheel run-out compensation at rear wheels.
- Remove cover for fog lamp (1) on left and right 63.
- Remove dirt, if there is any, from the sensor lens.
- Position ACC setting deviceVAS 6430 in the middle and parallel at a distance (a) from the ACC reflector mirrorVAS 6430/3 fitted in the middle to the VW emblem in the radiator grille. [Note: ACC setting deviceVAS 6430 is not allowed to be moved on alignment beam.]
- Fit measurement transducers of front wheels (1) an VAS 6430.
- Remove mirror fitted in middle and mount it again on the far right-hand side next to the vertical slide block.
- In the area (A), move position (2) on rotary knob so that it coincides with marking on mirror (the number 2 on the rotary knob must point towards the vehicle).
- Use the adjusting screws (1), (2) and (3) to bring spirit levels (A) and (B) on VAS 6430 horizontal.
- Adjust mirror (4) by means of crank handle (arrow) in such a way that the laser beam hits the sensor lens in the middle.
- Position mirror (4) on side of alignment beam until the laser beam hits the sensor lens in the middle.
- Set the same individual toe values of the front axle by means of fine adjusting screw (5).
- Use adjusting screw (1) to level spirit level (2).
- Now, use laser beam (3) am VAS 6430/3 again to check whether laser beam hits the sensor lens in the middle. [Note: VAS 6430 is correctly aligned if the laser beam still coincides with the sensor lens at this stage, after the identical toe values have been set.The alignment of VAS 6430 must be repeated if the laser beam does not coincide with the sensor lens.]
- Go to vehicle diagnosis system, test and information systemVAS 5051B, click Go To and select the function "“Function/component selection”".
- On the screen, click the following buttons one after the other:

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
