Adjusting sliding/tilting sunroof glass panel height: VW Passat B5
Step-by-step adjusting sliding/tilting sunroof glass panel height for the VW Passat B5: 13 steps, 4 torque figures.
On the cars covered by the platform codes listed below (3B2 and 3B6), a sunroof glass panel that sits proud at the front or low at the rear is corrected at its securing screws rather than by any work on the mechanism. With the roof open and the sun shield pushed back, the lower and upper trims are unclipped to expose the T25 Torx screws. The panel is then run to the closed position, its height set against the surrounding roof line, and the screws tightened to 4.5 Nm, front first, then middle, then rear. The result depends on two things: keeping the adjustment symmetrical left to right, and making sure the glass is never higher than the roof at the front or lower than the roof at the rear.
🧭 Before you start
Open the sunroof, push the sun shield back and unclip the lower and upper trims to reach the securing screws. Slacken the screws, run the panel closed and set its height against the roof. Tighten the front screws to 4.5 Nm, then the middle and rear ones, and refit the trims by hooking them in at the rear and clipping them at the front and centre.
Fits: VW Passat B5 (3B)
Don't miss
- Set the panel so it is not higher than the roof at the front at any point.
- At the rear the panel must not sit lower than the roof anywhere.
- Keep left and right adjustment as symmetrical as possible for an even appearance.
- Tighten front screws first, then middle and rear, all to 4.5 Nm.
- Hook trims in at the rear before clipping the front and centre to avoid broken clips.

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
