Timing belt replacement: Citroen (DW10TD)

Step-by-step timing belt replacement for the Citroen (DW10TD): 106 steps. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.

This timing belt procedure is for the Citroën 2.0 HDi with the DW10TD (RHY) engine, in 8V and 16V forms, where the camshaft gear is held by a single bolt. The engine is supported and the right-hand engine mount, reaction link and timing covers come off, along with the crankshaft pulley under a flywheel locking tool. The camshaft is pinned through the left side of the spline and the crankshaft locked at TDC from under the engine into the flywheel. With a new belt fitted, the tension is set with the tension gauge against the tensioner pulley, the engine is turned, the locking pins refitted and the tension checked again. Two things govern the job: a cold engine for adjustment, and repeating the setting whenever the pins do not slide in cleanly.

106 steps 1 engine code

🧭 Before you start

Support the engine, remove the right-hand mount, covers and crankshaft pulley, and lock the camshaft and crankshaft. Check the tensioner and idler pulleys, fit a new belt in the stated sequence and tension it with the gauge, then remove the pins, turn the engine, refit them and check the tension. Refit the covers, a new crankshaft pulley bolt tightened in two stages, the mount, reaction link and remaining parts.

Fits: platform codes 2.0, HDI, |, 16V, 8V

  • Timing position: the crankshaft or camshaft is set and locked during this job
  • Special tools named: locking pin, locking tool

Don't miss

  • Always fit a new timing belt once it has been removed.
  • The engine must be cold before the belt is adjusted.
  • Fit the camshaft locking pin into the left side of the spline.
  • If tension is wrong or the locking pins do not fit, slacken and repeat the adjustment.
  • Use a new crankshaft pulley bolt, tightened in two stages.

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
