Note:
This test must be carried out if any of the following displays appears on fault reader V.A.G 1551 when connected:
Rapid data transfer
Fault in communication build up
Indicated on display:
or
Rapid data transfer
HELP
K wire not switching to earth
or
Rapid data transfer
HELP
K wire not switching to positive
Testing K-wire
The wiring connection between the white diagnostic connector and the engine control unit is routed via wiring junction K in relay plate with fuse carrier and the electronic immobilizer control unit:
Wiring junction · White diagnostic connector · Electronic immobilizer control unit · Engine control unit
Contact · IN · OUT · Contact
K · 2 · 10 · 9 · 19
Switch ignition on and press keys 2 and 5 for address word "Electronic immobilizer" and confirm entry with Q key.

.
If the control unit identification of the electronic immobilizer is not displayed:
Continue with test B=>Page

.
Test A:
Test control unit for electronic immobilizer and wiring connection as follows:
Switch off ignition.
Unplug connector at control unit for electronic immobilizer -J362:
=> Electrical System; Repair group 96; Servicing electronic immobilizer; Removing and installing electronic immobilizer
Electrical System
Servicing electronic immobilizer
Removing and installing electronic immobilizer
Bridge contacts 9 and 10 in connector with a wiring bridge.
Switch ignition on, then press keys 0 and 1 for address word "Engine electronics" and confirm entry with Q key.
If the control unit identification of the engine control unit is displayed:
Renew electronic immobilizer control unit.
If the control unit identification of the engine control unit is not displayed:
Test wiring connection from electronic immobilizer control unit -J362 to engine control unit for open circuit or short circuit to earth or positive according to current flow diagram.
Test B
Switch off ignition.
Note:
All diagnostic wiring of the individual systems lead into wiring junction K. A defective wire (short circuit to earth or positive) or a defective control unit can also lead to one of the fault messages referred to above.
Disconnect from wiring junction K all other wires for vehicle systems with diagnostic capability.
Identify K-wire for control unit for electronic immobilizer -J362 and engine control unit and connect to wiring junction K.
Switch on ignition and enter address word 25 for "electronic immobilizer"again.

If the fault reader V.A.G. 1551 displays the control unit identification of the electronic immobilizer:
The fault is caused by another system with diagnostic capability.
Identify other systems with diagnostic capability, connect them to wiring junction K and test.
If the control unit identification of the electronic immobilizer is not displayed:
Unplug connector at control unit of electronic immobilizer -J362:
=> Electrical system; Repair group 96; Servicing electronic immobilizer; Removing and installing control unit of electronic immobilizer
Electrical system
Servicing electronic immobilizer
Removing and installing control unit of electronic immobilizer
Check wiring connection between contact 10 of connector for electronic immobilizer control unit and wiring junction K for open circuit or short circuit to earth or positive according to current flow diagram.
Rectify any open/short circuit as necessary.
=> Current flow diagrams, Electrical fault finding and Fitting locations
If there is no open circuit or short circuit, renew the electronic immobilizer control unit.

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
