Testing power output stage: Audi 2.0 (ABK, ADW)
Step-by-step testing power output stage for the Audi 2.0 (ABK/ADW): factory workshop text. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.
Workshop procedure for AUDI — the factory write-up, straight from real workshop data.
📋 Procedure
ADW
Special tools, testers and auxiliary equipment required
Hand-held multimeter V.A.G 1526 or V.A.G 1526 A
Voltage tester V.A.G 1527 B
Adapter set V.A.G 1594 A
Test box V.A.G 1598/18
Test requirements:
Ignition coil OK; checking =>Page
28-17
.
Testing power supply
Unplug the connector from the power output stage and the main ignition wire from the ignition coil.
Set hand-held multimeter V.A.G 1526 to voltage measuring range (20 V direct current) and connect it as follows using test leads from V.A.G 1594 A.
Between contact 1 (positive) and engine earth
Between contact 1 (positive) and contact 3 (earth)
Switch the ignition on.
Specification: approx. battery voltage
If the specification is not obtained:
Eliminate open circuit or short circuit using the current flow diagram.
Testing actuation
Test requirements:
Hall sender OK, checking => Page
28-13
.
Remove fuse 17 (the fuel pump must not run when starting the engine otherwise the catalytic converter may be damaged).
Connect voltage tester V.A.G 1527 B between contact 2 (signal) and 3 (earth) of the connector using auxiliary wires from V.A.G 1594.
Operate starter.
The LED should flash.
If the LED does not flicker:
With the ignition switched off, connect test box V.A.G 1598/18 to connector for engine control unit => Page
24-16
.
Test for open circuit in the following wiring connections:
Connector / for -N70 / Contact · Test box / V.A.G 1598/18 / Socket
2 · 7
Rectify open circuit, if necessary
In addition, test the Hall sender => Page
28-13
.
If the wiring and Hall sender are OK, fit a new Digifant control unit => Page
24-18
.
Notes:
After replacing the Digifant control unit, it is necessary to adapt the control unit and throttle valve potentiometer to each other => Page
24-92
.
After replacing the Digifant control unit on vehicles fitted with an automatic gearbox, it is necessary to adapt the automatic gearbox control unit and the throttle valve potentiometer to each other => Page
24-93
.
If the LED flickers:
Switch off ignition.
Plug in the connector and the ignition wire at the ignition coil again.
Connect voltage tester V.A.G 1527 B to contacts 1 and 15 of the ignition transformer using auxiliary wires and terminals.
Warning
During the following test do not touch the terminals of the ignition transformer or test wires.
Operate starter.
The LEDs should flash.
If LED does not flash:
Fit a new ignition coil with output stage.

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
Seen a figure that does not match your manual? Write to us — we correct it and note when. support@torqfix.com
