Servicing subframe - front-wheel drive vehicles — AUDI
Servicing subframe - front-wheel drive vehicles on Audi: 34 steps. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.
Renewing the subframe bonded rubber bushes on front-wheel drive Audi A5 (8T, 2007–2016), A5 Cabriolet (8F) and A4 B8 (8K, 2007–2015) does not need the subframe removed. Each end is lowered separately, and by no more than 4 cm, which keeps the wheel alignment intact. The car goes on a lift, wheels and coil springs come out, underbody covers and, on the A5 Cabriolet or Sportback, the diagonal struts are removed. The subframe is supported on a jack with a wooden block, the bolts and supports removed and a spindle used to control the drop. The old bush is marked against the subframe and pressed out with hydraulic press VAS 6178, and the new one pressed in straight to the same marks.
🧭 Before you start
Raise the car, remove the wheels, coil springs, underbody covers and diagonal struts where fitted. Support the subframe on a jack with a wooden block, remove the bolts and supports at the end being worked on and lower it no more than 4 cm using the spindle. Mark the bush position, press it out with the hydraulic press and press the new one in straight until its collar is flush, with the rubber beads on the marks. Repeat at the other end, refitting the locating element on the hydraulic rear bush, then touch up any paint damage and reassemble.

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
