Removing rear spoiler: Audi A6 C5

Step-by-step removing rear spoiler for the Audi A6 C5: 13 steps. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.

Removing a bonded rear spoiler on the Audi with platform code 4B is a cutting job, not an unbolting job. The collared nuts on the studs are reached from inside the boot lid once the hazard triangle holder and lid lining are out, but the spoiler is also bonded to the paint. The lid is masked all round the spoiler with fabric-reinforced tape to protect the paint, and the outer stud positions are marked on the spoiler with a felt-tip pen. The wire from cutting tool V.A.G 1351 goes under the spoiler at the side and is pulled through the bond to the outer mark, a plastic wedge holds the gap open, and the wire is worked past the stud to the centre screw connection. Repeat from the other side.

🧭 Before you start

Removal only. Inside the lid, the hazard warning triangle with holder and the lid lining come out so the hexagon collared nuts can be unscrewed from the spoiler studs. The lid is masked around the spoiler with fabric-reinforced adhesive tape and the outer stud positions marked with a felt-tip pen. Cutting wire from tool V.A.G 1351, fitted into its two handles, is inserted under the spoiler at the side and pulled through the bond to the outer mark; a plastic wedge is slid in as a spacer and the wire is threaded through at the stud position and pulled through to the centre screw connection. The other side is cut the same way and the spoiler is detached.

Fits: Audi A6 C5 (4B)

Don't miss

  • Unscrew the collared nuts from inside the lid before cutting; the studs hold the spoiler as well as the bond.
  • Mask the lid all round the spoiler with fabric-reinforced tape; cutting wire cuts paint.
  • Mark the outer stud positions on the spoiler; cut to the mark, then re-enter the wire past the stud.
  • Use a plastic wedge as a spacer so the wire has room to pass the stud.
  • This page covers removal only.

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
