Installing spoiler (rear lid has holes for locating pins) — AUDI
Installing spoiler (rear lid has holes for locating pins) on Audi: 22 steps, 1 torque figure. What to remove, what to tighten and to how many Nm, what to.
Workshop procedure for AUDI — the exact step sequence and torque figures, straight from real workshop data.
🧭 Before you start
Fits: Audi TT Mk1 (8N)
Don't miss
- The remaining sealant is required as a base for better adhesion of the new adhesive sealant.
- Mark area for primer application; to do so, position primer template for Audi TTVAS 6043(1) on rear lid and hold it in position with the two locating pins (2).
- Mark area for primer application (1) using a soft pencil or similar.
- On TT Roadster vehicles you must cover the outer holes and the hexagon nuts at the inner holes with rubber plugs.
🔩 Torque settings
Values can differ between engine variants — check the code stamped on your block.
| Torque | Fastener / step |
|---|---|
| 5 Nm (3.7 lb-ft) | Tighten outer nuts |
ℹ️ Always cross-check the exact figure against your vehicle's factory manual before final tightening — a wrong torque can damage the engine. These values are extracted from workshop data and may not cover every variant or revision.
📋 Procedure
- When reusing an undamaged rear lid, use a carpet knife to cut back the remaining adhesive sealant on the rear lid and spoiler for an even surface, but do not remove completely. [Note: The remaining sealant is required as a base for better adhesion of the new adhesive sealant.]
- ⚠ Keep bonding surface clean and free from grease.Do not cut back bonding surface until shortly before installation. Do NOT apply primer to bonding surface and do NOT use cleaning solution. — Clean bonding surface on rear lid using cleaning solutionD 009 401 04.
- Wipe bonding area clean with paper towel.
- Mark area for primer application; to do so, position primer template for Audi TTVAS 6043(1) on rear lid and hold it in position with the two locating pins (2).
- Mark area for primer application (1) using a soft pencil or similar.
- Remove primer template from rear lid.
- ⚠ Make sure you do NOT apply primer beyond the marking. If primer is applied beyond the marking (e.g. if it runs or drips) it can be removed with a paper towel and cleaning solvent, but only up to approx. 1 minute after applying the primer. It cannot be cleaned off after this time has elapsed, as the primer then starts to bond with the paint. — Apply paint primerD 181 711 A1 to the complete area marked (1). [Note: In the case of vehicles which do not have holes in the rear lid for the locating pins, you will have to order the drilling and assembly device66 B2 / 00 from your distribution centre or importer.Installing the spoiler on rear lids without holes for locating pins .]
- Cut back applicator nozzleD 002 001(1) in such a way that diameter (a) = approx. 7 mm.
- Screw applicator nozzle (1) together with union nut (2) onto connection piece.
- Apply adhesive bead (2) to rear spoiler (1) as shown in illustration.
- Note correct distance of adhesive bead (2) to adhesive stopper strip.
- Insert locating pins (3) in holes in rear lid (4).
- Fit spoiler (1) vertically onto rear lid.
- Hold spoiler in installation position and open rear lid.
- A 2nd mechanic is needed to lightly screw on the spoiler at the outer securing pins, using self-locking hexagon nuts.
- Apply a drop of liquid locking fluidD 000 600 A2 to thread of the two centre flange bolts in order to secure hexagon nuts.
- Screw hexagon nut (1) onto flange bolt (2) just beyond Torx section of bolt (arrow).
- Use Torx spanner E5 to turn flange bolt in anti-clockwise direction so that collar makes contact with reinforcement panel (4).
- Hold flange bolt (2) in position with Torx spanner E5 and hand-tighten hexagon nut (1) with angled ring spanner.
- Use setting tool3371 to check panel gap (a).
- Tighten outer nuts to 5 Nm. — 5 Nm (3.7 lb-ft)
- Loosen hexagon nuts and correct panel gap . [Note: On TT Roadster vehicles you must cover the outer holes and the hexagon nuts at the inner holes with rubber plugs.]

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
