Removing gearbox, vehicles with petrol engine — AUDI

Removing gearbox, vehicles with petrol engine on Audi: 75 steps. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.

This is removal of the dual clutch gearbox behind a petrol engine on the 7E-series platform codes listed below (Transporter T6 family). It is a long job: radio code first, then plenum panels, charge air hose and coolant expansion tank, with the gear oil cooler hoses clamped and tied up and the selector cable unhooked. The starter and upper bolts come out from above before the vehicle is raised, the subframe is removed after its position is fixed, and the drive shafts, propshaft, downstream catalytic converter and rear engine support follow. The engine is hung from support bracket 10-222A, lowered by approx. 115 mm, and the gearbox is mounted on support 3282 before being tilted past the longitudinal member. Accurate support setup and checking the crankshaft needle bearing afterwards decide the outcome.

75 steps

🧭 Before you start

Obtain the radio code, disconnect the battery and clear the plenum area, charge air hose and expansion tank. Clamp off the oil cooler hoses, release the selector cable and remove the starter and accessible bolts. Underneath, remove wheels, insulation, exhaust, subframe, drive shafts, propshaft, catalytic converter and rear engine support. Support the assembly, lower it to dimension (a), mount the gearbox on support 3282, pull it off the dowels and tilt it past the longitudinal member. Inspect and grease the crankshaft needle bearing.

Fits: VW Transporter T6 (7E)

Don't miss

  • Fix the subframe position before removing it.
  • Do not bend or kink the selector lever cable.
  • Measure dimension (a) when lowering the engine and gearbox by approx. 115 mm.
  • A damaged or blue-tarnished crankshaft needle bearing must be renewed.
  • Grease the gearbox shaft end lightly, but not the splines.
  • Attach the diagnosis log to a gearbox going back for analysis.

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
