Removing gearbox (vehicles with 1.2 ltr. TFSI engine): Audi A3
Step-by-step removing gearbox (vehicles with 1.2 ltr. TFSI engine) for the Audi A3: 60 steps. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.
This procedure removes the dual clutch gearbox from the Audi A3 (8P, 2003–2012) with the 1.2 TFSI engine. With the selector in P, the air duct and air cleaner housing come out, then the battery and tray, giving access to the selector cable and the top of the gearbox. The starter is unbolted, the upper bolts removed and the engine taken up on support bracket 10-222 A. Below, the wheels, liners and front exhaust pipe are removed, coolant drained, the mechatronic unit J743 unplugged after discharging static, drive shafts unbolted, swivel joints disengaged and the struts swung out on 2024 A/1. With the pendulum support and gearbox support off, gearbox support 3282 is fitted and the box pressed off its dowels. Static and the selector cable are the critical points.
🧭 Before you start
Put the selector in P and remove air ducting, air cleaner, battery and tray. Detach the selector cable, starter and upper bolts, and hang the engine on 10-222 A. Below, remove wheels, liners and front exhaust, drain coolant, unplug the mechatronic unit and G266, unbolt the drive shafts and swing out the struts. Remove the right flange shaft, pendulum support and gearbox mounting, lower to distance (a), fit gearbox support 3282 with plate 3282/59 and strap T10038, remove the remaining bolts and lower the gearbox while guiding the selector cable out.
Fits: Audi A3 (8P, 2003–2012)

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
