Step-by-step removing and installing tilt mechanism with cable for the Audi Q7: 56 steps, 2 torque figures.

Workshop procedure for AUDI — the exact step sequence and torque figures, straight from real workshop data.

56 steps 2 torque figures

🧭 Before you start

Fits: Audi Q7 (4L, 2005–2015)

Don't miss

  • Mark position of rear corner piece (1) (left and right) at frame (arrow).
  • Any residual adhesive must have been removed from bonding surfaces on frame/bonding slot in corner piece.
  • Slide corner pieces (left and right) into frame as far as mark made previously.
  • The guide rail must be cleaned and then re-lubricated with lithium greaseG 052 150 A2 prior to assembly.
  • The slides (2) of the tilt mechanism (3) must face to the rear when they are inserted (arrow) into the rail (1). — Tilt mechanisms (2) must not be inserted at top (arrow) of guide rail (1).

🔩 Torque settings

Values can differ between engine variants — check the code stamped on your block.

TorqueFastener / step
2 Nm (1.5 lb-ft)Fit securing bolts (2) at tilt arm (3) of frame (1) and tighten
2 Nm (1.5 lb-ft)Tighten bolts (2)

ℹ️ Always cross-check the exact figure against your vehicle's factory manual before final tightening — a wrong torque can damage the engine. These values are extracted from workshop data and may not cover every variant or revision.

📋 Procedure

  1. Remove sunroof panels »1«; »2« and »3«.
  2. Remove sunroof frame.
  3. Release electrical wiring harness from rear corner piece.
  4. Mark position of rear corner piece (1) (left and right) at frame (arrow).
  5. Pierce bonded joint of base area between corner piece and guide rail with a knife and separate joint.

  1. Carefully pull rear corner pieces (2) out of frame (1).
  2. Remove any residual adhesive from frame and corner pieces.
  3. ⚠ Note the position of the cables prior to removal to avoid errors during installation.Do not pull the cable out at the tilt mechanism. The cable with the tilt mechanism should only be pushed out of the frame at the locations specified by applying e.g. a screwdriver to the plastic section. This causes the tilt mechanisms to move to the tilt position. — Unscrew bolts (2) at tilt arm (3) from frame (1).
  4. Use a screwdriver to slide tilt mechanism (2) for panel »3« at plastic section (arrow) in direction of (arrow).
  5. This causes the tilt mechanism to move to tilt position.
  6. Use a screwdriver to slide tilt mechanism (2) for panel »3« at plastic section (arrow) completely out of frame in direction of (arrow).
  7. Cable for panel »3« inserted into tilt mechanism at side
  8. Install in reverse order, paying attention to the following.
  9. Slide tilt mechanism with cable into guide rail.
  10. Apply a screwdriver only to plastic guide (as during removal) and slide tilt mechanism in in opposite direction.
  11. Fit securing bolts (2) at tilt arm (3) of frame (1) and tighten to 2 Nm. — 2 Nm (1.5 lb-ft)
  12. Any residual adhesive must have been removed from bonding surfaces on frame/bonding slot in corner piece.
  13. Apply 1-component MS adhesiveD 172 090 A2(2) to bonding slot in corner piece (1) (left and right), as shown.
  14. Slide corner pieces (left and right) into frame as far as mark made previously.
  15. Tighten bolts (2) to 2 Nm. — 2 Nm (1.5 lb-ft)
  16. Check for leaks.
  17. To do so, seal water drain hose connection and fill slot in frame with water.
  18. No water should emerge at transition between frame and corner piece.
  19. ⚠ Before fitting the motors for the sun blind and the glass panel, check that the cables/tilt mechanism run parallel; adjust them if necessary. — Use a tape measure to set cable for sun blind/glass panel evenly with respect to cross piece at frame (left and right).
  20. Install motors for sun blind and glass panel.
  21. Fit sunroof frame without panel in the vehicle.
  22. Fit and adjust sunroof panels »1«; »2« and »3«.
  23. Perform adaption for all motors.
  24. Remove sunroof panels »1«; »2« and »3«.
  25. Remove sunroof frame.
  26. Remove motor for panel »1«.
  27. Unscrew bolts (2) at frame (1) for corner piece (3) (front).
  28. Use a knife to cut through seal between the corner piece (2) and frame (1).
  29. Carefully pull rear corner pieces (2) out of frame (1).
  30. Use a screwdriver to slide tilt mechanism (2) for panel »1« at plastic section (arrow) in direction of (arrow).
  31. This causes the tilt mechanism to move to tilt position.
  32. Use a screwdriver to slide tilt mechanism (2) for panel »1« at plastic section (arrow) out of frame (1) in direction of (arrow).
  33. Cable for panel »1« inserted into plastic section (3) at side
  34. Install in reverse order, paying attention to the following. [Note: The guide rail must be cleaned and then re-lubricated with lithium greaseG 052 150 A2 prior to assembly.]
  35. Lubricate rail with a small quantity of lithium greaseG 052 150 A2 in slide areas.
  36. Also apply a small quantity of lithium greaseG 052 150 A2 to plastic guides.
  37. ⚠ The slides (2) of the tilt mechanism (3) must face to the rear when they are inserted (arrow) into the rail (1). — Tilt mechanisms (2) must not be inserted at top (arrow) of guide rail (1).
  38. Applying a screwdriver at locations shown in the detail view only (arrow), push tilt mechanisms (2) forwards as far as stop (arrow). [Note: The end position of the tilt mechanism (3) of the panel »1« has been reached when the plastic guide (2) enters into the end piece and the guide slide is lowered.]
  39. It can then not be pushed any further forwards.
  40. Any residual adhesive must have been removed from bonding surfaces on frame/bonding slot in corner piece.
  41. Apply 1-component MS adhesiveD 172 090 A2(2) to bonding slot in corner piece (1) (left and right), as shown.
  42. Slide corner pieces (left and right) into frame as far as mark made previously.
  43. Tighten bolts (2) to 2 Nm. — 2 Nm (1.5 lb-ft)
  44. Check for leaks.
  45. To do so, seal water drain hose connection and fill slot in frame with water.
  46. No water should emerge at transition between frame and corner piece.
  47. ⚠ Before fitting the motors for the sun blind and the glass panel, check that the cables/tilt mechanism run parallel; adjust them if necessary. — Use a tape measure to set cable for sun blind/glass panel evenly with respect to cross piece at frame (left and right).
  48. Install motors for sun blind and glass panel.
  49. Fit sunroof frame without panel in the vehicle.
  50. Fit and adjust sunroof panels »1«; »2« and »3«.
  51. Perform adaption for all motors.

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.

Seen a figure that does not match your manual? Write to us — we correct it and note when. support@torqfix.com
