Installing bevel box, Audi A1 quattro on Audi: 12 steps, 4 torque figures. What to remove, what to tighten and to how many Nm, what to check after.
Workshop procedure for AUDI — the exact step sequence and torque figures, straight from real workshop data.
🧭 Before you start
Fits: Audi A1 (8X, 2010–2018)
- Opens: gearbox oil
🔩 Torque settings
Values can differ between engine variants — check the code stamped on your block.
| Torque | Fastener / step |
|---|---|
| 20 Nm (15 lb-ft) | Attach heat shield for drive shaft (right-side) to bevel box, tightening the 2 nuts… |
| 40 Nm (30 lb-ft) | Tighten bolts (arrows 1) |
| 40 Nm (30 lb-ft) | Tighten bolts (arrows 2) |
| 8 Nm (5.9 lb-ft) | Attach heat shield (A) for propshaft to bevel box |
ℹ️ Always cross-check the exact figure against your vehicle's factory manual before final tightening — a wrong torque can damage the engine. These values are extracted from workshop data and may not cover every variant or revision.
📋 Procedure
- Push bevel box fully onto gearbox, ensuring that splines of bevel box input shaft and differential are centred when brought together.
- ⚠ Risk of irreparable damage to bevel box housing.Do not use the securing bolts to pull the bevel box onto the gearbox. This could cause the bevel box to tilt and the securing eyes could break off. — Secure bevel box to gearbox with new bolts (arrows). Tightening torque
- Bolt gearbox carrier for bevel box to engine and bevel box, adhering to correct tightening sequence (arrows 1) and (arrows 2).
- Attach heat shield for drive shaft (right-side) to bevel box, tightening the 2 nuts (arrows) to 20 Nm. — 20 Nm (15 lb-ft)
- Attach air pipe (right-side) to turbocharger, tightening bolts (arrows) to specified torque 21Charge air system; Exploded view - charge air system.
- Attach heat shield (A) for propshaft to bevel box. To do so, first tighten nuts (arrows A), then bolt (arrow B) to 8 Nm. — 8 Nm (5.9 lb-ft)
- Then connect front exhaust pipe with catalytic converter and front silencer to turbocharger 26Emission control system; Removing and installing catalytic converter.
- Install gearbox with engine 10Removing and installing engine; Installing engine.
- Check gear oil level (bevel box) .
- Screw in bolts (arrows 1) and (arrows 2) hand-tight.
- Tighten bolts (arrows 1) to 40 Nm. — 40 Nm (30 lb-ft)
- Tighten bolts (arrows 2) to 40 Nm. — 40 Nm (30 lb-ft)

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
