Removing and installing side airbag (head, thorax) — AUDI
Removing and installing side airbag (head, thorax) on Audi: 14 steps. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.
Removing and installing the head-and-thorax side airbag in the front seat backrest, listed here for the platform codes 2K0 and 2C0 (the 2K code is the VW Caddy III). Because the airbag is built into the backrest frame, the battery is disconnected first and the seat comes out of the car, followed by the belt buckle, seat trim panels and the backrest itself. The cover and padding are separated from the frame, the harness and connector released, and the airbag unbolted from its mounting. Depending on version it is held by one bolt or two. Treat it as a pyrotechnic component throughout, and reconnect the battery with nobody in the vehicle and the ignition on.
🧭 Before you start
Disconnect the battery, remove the front seat, belt buckle, seat trim and backrest, and separate the cover and padding from the frame. Release the airbag harness and connector, remove the bolt or bolts and lift the airbag from the backrest frame. Refit in reverse, switch on the ignition and reconnect the battery with the car empty, then check the airbag warning lamp.
Fits: VW Caddy III (2K, 2004–2015); platform code 2C0
Don't miss
- Follow the safety rules for pyrotechnic components before touching the airbag.
- Release the harness and connector from the frame before unbolting the airbag.
- Reconnect the battery with the ignition on and nobody inside the vehicle.
- If warning lamp K75 shows a fault, read, delete and re-read the event memory.
- General practice: store a removed airbag with the deployment side facing up.

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
