Removing and installing power steering pump (vehicles with 6-cyl. 2.7 ltr. and 3.0 ltr. TDI common rail engine) — AUDI
Removing and installing power steering pump (vehicles with 6-cyl. 2.7 ltr. and 3.0 ltr. TDI common rail engine) on Audi: 23 steps.
The power steering pump on the 2.7 and 3.0 litre six-cylinder TDI common rail engines, in the Audi A4 B6/B7 (8E) and the other platform code listed, is at the front of the engine and needs the front end opened up. The fluid is extracted from the reservoir first, then the noise insulation, engine cover and bumper come off and the lock carrier is set to the service position. Mark the poly V-belt's direction of rotation before taking it off, because a used belt can break if it runs backwards. The pulley is unbolted while counterholding with pin wrench 3212, and the suction and pressure lines are disconnected over a drip tray and plugged. Renew gaskets and seals, prime a new pump with fluid until it emerges at the pressure outlet, then bleed and leak-check the steering.
🧭 Before you start
Extract hydraulic fluid, remove noise insulation, engine cover and bumper, and set the lock carrier to service position. Mark and remove the poly V-belt, unbolt the pulley with 3212, disconnect the intake hose, suction hose and pressure banjo bolt over a drip tray and plug the openings. Remove the bolts and lift out the pump. Refit with new seals, prime the pump, reassemble the front end, then check the fluid level, bleed the system and check for leaks.
Fits: Audi A4 Cabriolet B6/B7 (8H), Audi A4 B6/B7 (8E)
- Opens: power steering fluid
- Renewed: gaskets
Don't miss
- Mark the poly V-belt's direction of rotation before removal and refit it the same way.
- Counterhold the pulley with pin wrench 3212 when unbolting it.
- Plug the open hose connections to keep dirt out.
- Renew gaskets and seals; prime a new pump until fluid exits the pressure outlet.
- Bleed the steering system and check for leaks after filling.

📋 Procedure
- Extract hydraulic fluid from reservoir using oil extractorV.A.G 1358 A or used oil collection and extraction unitV.A.G 1782.
- Remove noise insulation 50.
- Detach engine cover panel.
- Remove bumper 63.
- Set lock carrier to service position 50.
- Remove poly V-belt 13. [Note: Before removing poly V-belt, mark direction of rotation. A used belt can break if it runs in the opposite direction. Ensure that the belt is properly seated in the pulleys when installing.]
- Remove bolts (arrows).
- Unbolt power steering pump pulley. Use pin wrench3212 to counterhold pulley.
- Open hose clip (5) and disconnect air intake hose from throttle valve module.
- Place a drip tray underneath to catch hydraulic fluid.
- Detach hose clip (4) from suction hose (3).
- Disconnect suction hose and move hose to one side.
- Unscrew banjo bolt (2) for pressure hose (1).
- Seal off connections with plugs.
- Remove bolt (2) (accessible from below).
- Remove bolts (1) and take out power steering pump (3). [Note: Renew gaskets and seals. Before fitting a new power steering pump, put in hydraulic fluid at the inlet and rotate pump by hand until fluid comes out at the pressure outlet.Secure all hose connections with new hose clips Electronic parts catalogue.]
- Clean off fluid in engine compartment where necessary.
- Attach lock carrier 50.
- Install bumper 63.
- Check hydraulic fluid level .
- Bleed steering system .
- Check steering system for leaks .
- Fit noise insulation 50.

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
