Removing and installing left temperature flap control motor V158 / temperature flap control motor V68 on Audi: 17 steps, 1 torque figure.

Workshop procedure for AUDI — the exact step sequence and torque figures, straight from real workshop data.

17 steps 1 torque figure

🧭 Before you start

Fits: Audi A3 (8P, 2003–2012)

  • Special tools named: VAS 5051

Don't miss

  • Mark the connector (C) to the control motor (to prevent interchange with other identical connectors).
  • If the mount for the connecting rod (F) and the actuating arm (E) are not opposite each other, the mount in the control motor must be rotated. Observe general notes .

🔩 Torque settings

Values can differ between engine variants — check the code stamped on your block.

ℹ️ Always cross-check the exact figure against your vehicle's factory manual before final tightening — a wrong torque can damage the engine. These values are extracted from workshop data and may not cover every variant or revision.

📋 Procedure

  1. ⚠ Problems with air conditioner (heater) operation following installation of incorrect component versionsThe different control motor versions can only be distinguished from the outside based on their part numbersWhere possible, only remove a control motor once the new component is available for installation.Prior to installation, check carefully to ensure that the correct control motor is being installed. If possible, only dispose of the removed components once correct operation of the newly installed components has been checked. — Remove the dash panel complete with the dash panel cross-member. 1. Screw out the bolts (D).
  2. Detach the control motor (B).
  3. Detach the lever (E) of the control motor from the connecting rod (F). [Note: Lever (E) at control motor and connecting rod (D) are colour coded in vehicles built up to 10.2013. Lever (E) at control motor is grey, and connecting rod (F) is black. The different colours of the levers and connecting elements is only used on vehicles built until approx. 10.2013. On vehicles built after this time, these components can no longer be distinguished according to their colour .]

  5. Install actuating arm of control motor to connecting rod (F).
  6. The mount of the connecting rod (F) can only be attached to the actuating arm (E) in one position. [Note: If the mount for the connecting rod (F) and the actuating arm (E) are not opposite each other, the mount in the control motor must be rotated. Observe general notes .]
  7. Plug in the connector.
  8. Position control motor on air distribution housing.
  9. Carefully tighten bolts (tightening torque: 1 Nm). — 1 Nm (0.7 lb-ft)
  10. Route the wiring harness such that it cannot come into contact with moving components (e.g. control motor lever).
  11. Interrogate the event recorder of the operating and display unit, Climatronic control unit J255 and erase any faults displayed "Guided fault-finding" function of vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051.
  12. Perform basic setting and final control diagnosis for the air conditioner and interrogate the event recorder again "Guided fault-finding" function of vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051.

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
