Removing and installing infotainment system display: Audi A3
Step-by-step removing and installing infotainment system display for the Audi A3: 19 steps. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.
On the Audi A3 (8V) and related platform codes listed below, the retractable infotainment display is removed from the dash via its kinematic carrier. The centre vents come out first, the screen is extended and covered with film, and two captive bolts behind the vents are released so the carrier can be pressed out of the dash by hand. A diagnostic routine moves the display to a service position. The wiring on the carrier is the critical part: photograph its routing and fixings before unplugging, because a badly routed loom will snag when the display moves. Genuine bolts and a new display cover are used on refitting, and the display is driven out of service position with the final control diagnosis.
🧭 Before you start
Remove the centre vents, extend and protect the display, release the two captive bolts and press the carrier out through the vent openings. Use the tester to set the service position, photograph the wiring, unplug the connectors and remove the bolts holding the display to the carrier. Fit the new display with film, genuine bolts and a new cover, route the wiring exactly as before and move the display out of service position via final control diagnosis.
Fits: Audi A3 (8V, 2012–2020); platform code 85
Don't miss
- Photograph the carrier wiring routing and fixings before unplugging anything.
- Bolts behind the vents are captive; do not force them out.
- Use only genuine bolts and a new display cover.
- Open the display fully if needed to route its wiring correctly.

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
