  • Seal off open connections in the lines at the connection point using clean plugs, e.g. from engine bung setVAS 6122.
  • Lubricate O-rings lightly with refrigerant oil before fitting Refrigerant circuit seals.Observe the different tightening torques of the bolts ((A) in this illustration).
  • After attaching, check routing of refrigerant lines. They must be inserted tension-free in the brackets provided and should not make contact with other components.

  1. Detach the two refrigerant lines to the rear expansion valve (C, D) from the bracket (B) and the infeed (E). [Note: Seal off open connections in the lines at the connection point using clean plugs, e.g. from engine bung setVAS 6122.]
  2. Remove bolt (A), tightening torque Exploded view - expansion valve and refrigerant lines to heater and air conditioning unit (rear).
  3. Detach the two refrigerant lines to the second evaporator (C, D) from the line connection (B) to the infeed (E).
  4. Remove bolt (A), tightening torque Exploded view - internal heat exchanger and components under front left wing.
  5. Detach the internal heat exchanger (C) from the bracket (B) and the infeed (D).
  6. Release the catches to detach infeed (A) or (B) (different versions) from the opening in the body.
  7. Check grommet (C) on infeed ((A) or (B)) for damage and proper attachment to the infeed and opening in the body.
  8. Renew all O-rings ((E, F) in this illustration), different version. Electronic parts catalogue [Note: Lubricate O-rings lightly with refrigerant oil before fitting Refrigerant circuit seals.Observe the different tightening torques of the bolts ((A) in this illustration).]
  9. Thoroughly clean infeed (D) and refrigerant lines at connection area of joints and check for damage.
  10. After attaching, check routing of refrigerant lines. They must be inserted tension-free in the brackets provided and should not make contact with other components.
  11. Re-install the components removed in reverse order/re-attach the components unfastened.
  12. Evacuate and charge refrigerant circuit Air conditioner with refrigerant R134a87Refrigerant circuit.
  13. Interrogate the event memory of the front air conditioner operating and display unit E87 and erase any faults displayed in "“Guided Fault Finding”" mode.
  14. Start up air conditioner after charging refrigerant circuit . [Note: Also observe notes on starting up air conditioner after charging Air conditioner with refrigerant R134a87General notes on air conditioning systems.]

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
