Removing and installing hydraulic pressure line between gearshift actuator and hydraulic unit for R tronic — AUDI

Removing and installing hydraulic pressure line between gearshift actuator and hydraulic unit for R tronic on Audi: 13 steps.

Workshop procedure for AUDI — the exact step sequence and torque figures, straight from real workshop data.

13 steps

🧭 Before you start

Fits: platform code 42

  • Opens: power steering fluid
  • Also covered elsewhere: Electronic parts catalogue

Don't miss

  • Place a cloth below the connection to catch escaping gear oil.
  • Place a cloth below the connection to catch escaping hydraulic fluid.
  • Union nut (1) is accessible from right wheel housing.
  • When screwing on the union nuts, hold the hydraulic line in position so that the sealing surfaces are seated correctly. The hydraulic line must be free of strain when the union nuts are tightened.
  • Note different tightening torques.

📋 Procedure

  1. ⚠ The pressure in the hydraulic system can be as high as 50 bar – danger of injury! The system pressure must always be released before working on the hydraulic system for R tronic . — Remove rear wheel (right-side) Wheels and tyres44.
  2. Remove air cleaner housing Injection and ignition system24. [Note: Place a cloth below the connection to catch escaping gear oil.]
  3. Remove bolt (arrow) and pull gear oil lines out of gear oil thermostat.
  4. Seal off all open lines with clean plugs to prevent gear oil escaping. [Note: Place a cloth below the connection to catch escaping hydraulic fluid.]
  5. Unscrew union nuts (1) and (2) and detach hydraulic pressure line. [Note: Union nut (1) is accessible from right wheel housing.] [Note: Different versions are available, refer to Electronic parts catalogue.A damaged or leaking hydraulic line with threaded adapters can ONLY be replaced with a hydraulic line with threaded adapters.A damaged or leaking hydraulic line without threaded adapters can also be replaced with a hydraulic line with threaded adapters.]

  1. Screw in threaded adapters (1) and (2) and tighten to specified torque.
  2. Fit hydraulic pressure line.
  3. Screw on union nuts (1) and (2) hand-tight. [Note: When screwing on the union nuts, hold the hydraulic line in position so that the sealing surfaces are seated correctly. The hydraulic line must be free of strain when the union nuts are tightened.]
  4. Tighten union nuts (1) and (2) to specified torque. [Note: Note different tightening torques.]
  5. Install gear oil lines .
  6. Check fluid level in hydraulic unit .
  7. Install air cleaner housing Injection and ignition system24.
  8. Fit rear wheel (right-side) Wheels and tyres44.

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
