  1. ⚠ Danger of scalding injuries. When the engine is warm, the coolant temperature may be above 100 °C. The cooling system is pressurised. If necessary, release pressure and reduce temperature before carrying out repairs. — Clamp off coolant hoses (1) with hose clamps up to 40 mm3093 and disconnect coolant hoses to heat exchanger.
  2. Push a piece of hose (A) onto upper union of heat exchanger.
  3. Hold a container (B) under lower connection (C).
  4. Using a compressed air pistol, carefully blow coolant out of heat exchanger into container (B).
  5. Cover carpet in interior of vehicle with a waterproof foil and water absorbing paper. [Note: During removal, note lengths and locations of bolts for later installation.]
  6. Disconnect connectors on heater unit. [Note: Fit all cable ties and other fasteners for wiring harness at the same places from which they were detached or cut.]
  7. Undo bolts from bracket .
  8. Remove subframe 70.
  9. Undo bolts and take out bracket .
  10. Undo bolts from cable retainer. [Note: To reach bolt, pull heater unit on driver side slightly away from bulkhead. When removing heater unit, make sure that the two coolant pipes of heat exchanger do not catch on the opening to plenum chamber or on noise insulation tray and ensure that the pipes do not become bent or damaged.Be careful with the wiring harness too. If too much force is used to pull individual cable connections, they could be damaged.]
  11. Remove heater unit. [Note: The aid of a second mechanic is required to install the heater unit.]
  12. When heater unit is being inserted, ask a second mechanic (working from the engine compartment) to guide the two coolant pipes of the heat exchanger through the seal
  13. During installation, make sure that the seal separating heater unit and engine compartment is fitted in the correct position .
  14. Fill with coolant 19. [Note: Observe position of seal (A) during installation.]

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
