Removing and installing headlight range control motor, headlights with H4 bulb, vehicles as of model year 2010 — AUDI
Removing and installing headlight range control motor, headlights with H4 bulb, vehicles as of model year 2010 on Audi: 8 steps.
Replacing the headlight range control motor on the Transporter T5 and T6 with H4 headlights, model year 2010 onwards, means cutting into the headlight housing, because the motor is not serviceable through an existing opening. The ignition and all consumers are switched off and the key removed, then the headlight is taken out of the car. A marked area of the housing is cut open with a suitable tool, the two bolts are removed and the motor comes out. The new motor goes in on the same two bolts, and the opening is closed with a cover cap, its seal and two bolts. Everything rides on that cover cap: if it is not seated properly, water gets in and the headlight is ruined. Aim is checked and set afterwards.
🧭 Before you start
Switch everything off, remove the key and take out the headlight. Carefully cut open area (A) of the housing, remove the two bolts (1) and lift the motor out. Fit the new motor with the two bolts, then close the opening with cover cap (3), seal (1) and the two bolts (2). Refit the headlight, check its function, then check and adjust the beam setting.
Fits: VW Transporter T5 (7H), VW Transporter T5 (7J), VW Transporter T6 (7E), VW Transporter T6 (7F)
Don't miss
- Cut only the marked area (A) of the housing, and do it carefully.
- Fit the cover cap with its seal and make sure it is correctly seated.
- Water entering through a poorly seated cap permanently damages the headlight.
- Check the range control function before refitting the trim around the headlight.
- Check and, if necessary, adjust the headlight setting after the job.

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
