Removing and installing glove box - vehicles without knee airbag — AUDI
Removing and installing glove box - vehicles without knee airbag on Audi: 11 steps. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.
Removing the glove box on the Audi A5 Cabriolet (8F platform) without a knee airbag. If the car has the key switch to deactivate the passenger airbag (E224), the glove box carries a pyrotechnic-related connector, so the battery earth is disconnected with the ignition switched on and airbag safety rules apply. Depending on equipment, a storage box or CD drive comes out first. Then the top side bolt, the side dash panel cover and the bolts inside the glove box are removed, and the box is pulled forward just enough to unplug the main connector. The things that decide it: discharge static before touching the connector, make sure it engages audibly on refit, and reconnect the battery with nobody in the car.
🧭 Before you start
Switch on the ignition and disconnect the battery earth. Remove the storage box or CD drive if fitted, the top side bolt, the side dash cover and the bolts inside the lid. Pull the box out far enough to unplug the main connector, then lift it out. Refit in reverse, reconnect the battery with the ignition on and check the airbag warning lamp.
Fits: Audi A5 Cabriolet (8F)
Don't miss
- Disconnect and reconnect the battery earth with the ignition switched on.
- Discharge static at the door striker before unplugging or plugging the main connector.
- Push the connector fully home until it engages audibly.
- No one may be in the vehicle while the battery is reconnected.
- If airbag warning lamp K75 shows a fault, interrogate, erase and re-read the event memory.

📋 Procedure
- ⚠ On equipment version with key operated switch to deactivate airbag on front passenger side E224, observe safety regulations for pyrotechnic components . — Switch on ignition.
- With ignition switched on, disconnect battery earth wire Electrical system27Battery; Disconnecting and connecting battery.
- Equipment version with storage box in glove box: Release retaining hooks (left and right) using a screwdriver (arrow) and pull storage box out of glove box.
- Equipment version with CD drive: Remove CD drive Communication91DVD/CD changer; Removing and installing CD changer.
- Remove bolt (1) (top, side).
- Remove side dash panel cover (passenger side) .
- Open glove box lid and unscrew bolts (arrows).
- ⚠ Before handling pyrotechnic components (e.g. unplugging the electrical connector) the mechanic must discharge any static electricity. This can be done by briefly touching the door striker plate, or similar. — Pull glove box out far enough so that you can unplug electrical connector at main connector.
- Equipment version with connection for external audio sources R199: Remove connection for external audio sources R199Communication91Connection for external multimedia devices; Removing and installing connection for external audio sources R199.
- ⚠ On equipment version with key operated switch to deactivate airbag on front passenger side E224, observe safety regulations for pyrotechnic components .Before handling pyrotechnic components (e.g. plugging in the electrical connector) the mechanic must discharge any static electricity. This can be done by briefly touching the door striker plate, or similar.Make sure electrical connectors are fitted correctly (as far as stop) and engage audibly. — Plug in electrical connector until it engages audibly.
- ⚠ The battery must be connected with the ignition switched on. If pyrotechnic components (e.g. airbag or belt tensioner) are inexpertly repaired, this may result in unwanted triggering after connecting the battery. There must not be anyone in the vehicle while you are connecting the battery. — With ignition switched on, connect battery earth wire Electrical system27Battery; Disconnecting and connecting battery. [Note: If the airbag warning lamp K75 indicates a fault following installation, you must interrogate, erase and then re-interrogate the event memory .]

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
