Removing and installing exhaust gas recirculation control motor V338 — AUDI
Removing and installing exhaust gas recirculation control motor V338 on Audi: 14 steps, engines BTR, BUG, BUN, CANA.
Exhaust gas recirculation control motor V338 sits deep on these diesel engines, so most of this job is clearing the way to it. The page merges many variants and engine codes, so take the platform codes listed below as the reference rather than a single model. The coolant is drained first because the unit shares a coolant hose. The engine cover comes off its four pins, a retaining clip and the high-pressure fuel pipes are removed, then the upper intake manifold and the oil filter housing. After that the EGR thermostat connection, the G98 temperature sensor connector and the V338 connector are freed, and the motor is unbolted and pulled off its coolant hose. What decides the outcome is keeping the high-pressure fuel side clean, renewing every seal and gasket, and refilling and bleeding the coolant properly afterwards.
🧭 Before you start
Drain the coolant, pull off the engine cover and remove the retaining clip. Undo union nuts 1 to 4 and remove the high-pressure pipes, then remove the upper intake manifold and the oil filter housing. Detach the EGR thermostat connection, unplug G98 and V338, remove bolts (1, 2, 3) and pull the motor off coolant hose (4). Refit with new seals and gaskets, reinstall the oil filter housing, intake manifold and high-pressure pipes, and fill up with coolant.
Fits: Audi Q7 (4L, 2005–2015)
- Opens: coolant
- Renewed: seals
Don't miss
- Renew all seals and gaskets on the EGR motor and the parts removed for access.
- Plug open high-pressure fuel connections at once to keep dirt out.
- Pull the engine cover off its four pins one at a time to avoid breaking them.
- Refill and bleed the cooling system, then check the EGR motor coolant joint for leaks.
- As general practice, high-pressure fuel pipes are commonly renewed rather than refitted once disturbed.

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
